Professional Development
The Jefferson County Innovation Fellowship program is designed to provide talented individuals with an opportunity to gain practical and diverse real-world experience in government innovation. Fellows will learn about the inner workings of county government and make a difference in the community through meaningful projects. Fellows will interact with senior leaders, attend high-level meetings, and will be exposed to the responsibilities and challenges of multiple departments.

About the Position:
We are searching for a Generative AI Innovation Fellow to accelerate the county’s work around generative AI. This role places you at the forefront of cutting-edge technology evaluations and pilots, driving transformative change across county operations. A successful candidate will promote responsible and ethical use of generative AI tools; research, identify, and lead pilot projects; support policy recommendations; and work to assemble stakeholders around the county for generative AI pilots and projects. A successful candidate will be well versed in stakeholder engagement and communications, able to leverage their people skills in tandem with their technical skills to keep individuals around the county engaged in the work of the emerging tech team.
As a key player in the county's innovation efforts, you'll lead impactful projects alongside the Emerging Tech team that leverage the potential of AI, ensuring that Jefferson County remains a leader in public sector innovation. The position will report directly to the Innovation Program Manager. The successful candidate will have project management and interpersonal skills.
Additionally, the candidate should see obstacles not as roadblocks but as opportunities to get creative, think outside the box, and problem-solve.
SCHEDULE:
This position operates on our four-day work week (Monday–Thursday); however, with approval from the supervisor, employees are allowed to work a five-day work week if preferred.
This limited position is hybrid, with remote work and in-office work as determined by business need.
COMPENSATION:
Hiring Range: $29.00 - $33.00 USD Hourly
Compensation will be determined based on education, experience and skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Specifically, the Innovation Fellow (Generative AI) should expect to:
Engage external teams on collaborative projects involving implementation of AI tools
Lead the exploration, evaluation, and implementation of generative AI technologies that can enhance county operations and service delivery*

Guide strategy and support departmental implementation of AI tools (e.g. ScoutOS, ChatGPT, etc.)
Research, identify, and improve current policy, guidelines, and best practice recommendations to ensure responsible and ethical use of generative AI tools
Monitor and evaluate the impact of generative AI initiatives, providing regular reports and recommendations for continuous improvement.
Perform other duties as assigned.
*While generative AI is the primary focus of this role, many solutions leverage multiple types of AI, and generative AI may not always be the best fit. The Generative AI Innovation Fellow will critically assess which AI solutions best fit county needs, with an emphasis on off-the-shelf solutions rather than custom development. Potential technologies could include but are not limited to conversational AI, agentic AI, computer vision, natural language processing, and more.

About You

Generally, we’re looking for candidates with the following experiences, skills, and/or interests:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
Demonstrated communication skills across diverse teams, especially when involving technical information to non-technical audiences
Interest in the intersection of technology and how organizations deliver high-quality Services.
Experience using a variety of AI tools, preferably experience working with agentic AI.
Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite,
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Adaptable as both a supportive team player and leader.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
*Note: An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.
Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities:
Experience keeping multiple teams engaged in collaborative projects, or in engaging
multiple teams and getting buy-in on new projects
Experience working with agentic AI
Experience leading emerging technology pilots or projects.
Experience analyzing business needs, programs, and policies, and creating recommendations for improvement.
Able to work independently and collaboratively in a complex organization.
Experience delivering presentations, training, or workshops

A valid Colorado driver’s license is required for positions that drive on County Business in either a county or personal vehicle within 30-days of hire or beginning to serve as an intern or volunteer.
