Obstetrical Technicians function as members of the multi-disciplinary team dedicated to providing the highest quality care and service to our patients, physicians and other associates. The Obstetrical Technician is responsible for scrubbing and assisting with deliveries and surgical OB procedures; and provides the necessary instrumentation, supplies and equipment for operations. The Obstetrical Technician assists in nursing care activities under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs the duties of a Scrub person. Provides direct care for an age specific patient assignment reflective of current and changing status of patient.
Demonstrates knowledge of sterile technique by adhering to the principles of asepsis 100% of the time as evidenced by observation by ANM, MD, RN.
o Sets up table and Mayo stands according to established procedures 100% of the times as observed by Circulating Nurse.
o Performs Quality Assurance testing for Autoclave as per Infection Control Policies
o Participates in Time Out procedure.
- Demonstrates knowledge of standard operating room procedures. Performs technical skills proficiently during procedures.
- Cares for specimens as directed.
- Performs necessary clean up between procedures. Maintains orderliness of operative suite, labor rooms, special care, evaluation triage and recovery areas; and supply inventory.
- Safeguards physical integrity and safety of patient.
- Demonstrates effective functioning in emergency situations.
- Performs similar or related duties as required or directed by immediate supervisor or Registered Nurse.
REQUIREMENTS:
- High School graduate or equivalent
- Has completed training by one of the following pathways:
- Successful completion of nationally accredited educational program for surgical technologists
- Successful completion of an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard or Public Health Service Commissioned Corps.
- A new graduate of a nationally accredited or military training program for surgical technologist must provide documentation of having obtained certification as a surgical technologist by a nationally accredited surgical technologist credentialing organization by the end of the twelve months of employment.
- Must hold and maintain a certified surgical technologist credential administered by a nationally accredited surgical technologist credentialing organization.–OR— A new graduate of a nationally accredited or military training program for surgical technologist must provide documentation of having obtained certification as a surgical technologist by a nationally accredited surgical technologist credentialing organization by the end of the twelve months of employment.
- Must have knowledge of electric powered surgical hand tools and surgical instruments.
- BLS certified.
- Knowledge of PC work stations, basic computer navigation.
