Job Summary
The Technician, Critical Power/Data Center Services is responsible for commissioning, servicing, troubleshooting, installing, testing, maintaining, and repairing critical power and electrical infrastructure equipment across a variety of customer environments. Equipment supported may include Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems, battery systems, Power Distribution Units (PDU’s), Static Switches (SSW’s), generators, energy storage systems, switchgear, OEM equipment, and other mission-critical electrical infrastructure. This position also provides technical support to customers on operational, commissioning, and maintenance aspects of critical facility systems. This position reports to the Regional Service Manager or designee and does not have any direct reports. 


Key Job Responsibilities

  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Always maintain a safe work environment by adhering to established safety protocols and completing all required safety and compliance training by designated deadlines.
  • Perform required preventive maintenance service to equipment under contract as scheduled.
  • Responsible for maintenance involving use and care of electrical test equipment.
  • Advise requesting departments on available systems and requirements to ensure their needs are met while maintaining compliance with applicable safety codes and regulations.
  • Perform equipment commissioning, startup activities, functional testing, acceptance testing, and system verification.
  • Provide 24/7 on-call emergency services as required.
  • Perform routine maintenance on electrical equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation.
  • Conduct maintenance, testing, and inspection activities on battery systems and other critical power infrastructure.
  • Install, commission, and support critical power equipment and systems in accordance with design specifications, manufacturer requirements, and applicable safety codes.
  • Provide requested services while meeting safety codes, specifications and budgetary limitations.
  • Work with other team members to complete custom and large installation projects.
  • Perform commissioning, integrated systems testing, site acceptance testing, and related project activities in data centers, industrial facilities, commercial buildings, and other mission-critical environments.
  • Educate customers on basic operation of their equipment, informing them of issues they may experience and the necessary corrective actions.
  • Establish, promote, and maintain excellent rapport with all customers, co-workers, sales representatives and others as appropriate.
  • Maintain and safeguard company-issued tools and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot critical electrical and power systems down to the root cause and perform repairs, corrective actions, and system modifications with minimal customer downtime or site operation disruption.
  • Interpret technical documentation including schematics.
  • Protect company proprietary information, manuals, and records.
  • Complete all required paperwork accurately and on time, including Field Service Reports, RMAs, timecards, and expense reports.
  • Perform warehouse-related duties, including preparing batteries for shipment, managing inventory, and safely operating a forklift.
  • Maintain technical documentation for study and/or review.
  • Provide training and guidance to less experienced employees where necessary.
  • Participate in training sessions.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor


Key Performance Measurements

  • A score card that reflects performance in areas such as safety, efficiency, greater than 80% billable time, work order completion, customer satisfaction, and issue resolution.

Requirements

Job Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree from an approved two-year college or university or equivalent experience in Electrical or Electronic Engineering Technology, preferred.
  • Certification in recognized Electronics / Electricity based curriculum through a technical college or military training program.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of battery theory and application is required.
  • Must successfully pass a background check, drug screening, and any additional screening requirements as mandated by the customer.
  • Factory training or the equivalent in the repair and maintenance of multiple leading OEM brands found in this field is preferred.
  • Experience working on 3-Phase UPS systems, Switch gear, and large-scale Commissioning is a plus.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, initiative, and problem-solving skills in resolving issues and making recommendations.
  • Possess a background in industrial, commercial electrical systems, and an understanding of AC/DC theory.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute MOPs, read and interpret one-line diagrams and electrical schematics, and follow OEM procedures.
  • Must be customer service focused, organized, and professional.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in written and verbal English communication, with the ability to effectively communicate information, instructions, and technical concepts.
  • Possess a knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Must capture and deliver relevant data to home office and to customer via technical reports.
  • Intermediate level of computer skills required. This should include but not limited to Microsoft Office, PDF Converter Professional and Outlook.
  • May be required to rent and operate a vehicle on an occasional basis and must be able to satisfy all associated rental and driving requirements.
  • Possess a knowledge of electrical test equipment e.g. DVM, Oscilloscopes, Load Banks, battery testers etc.
  • Maintain strong communication, problem solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to clearly articulate ideas (both written and verbal) to both internal and external customers and to listen effectively to customer needs.
  • Able to develop and maintain strong workplace relationships with an emphasis on customer satisfaction.
  • Capable of working collaboratively with other departments toward the greater good of the organization.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-changing environment.
  • May require travel more than 50% and may include overnight travel.

Concentric Technicians may need to travel out of state to perform work. The Department of Transportation (DOT) has several requirements for drivers of commercial motor vehicles weighing less than 26,001 pounds who are driving across state lines, including:

  • Drivers must be at least 18 years old to drive "Intrastate". Drivers must be at least 21 years old to driver "Interstate".
  • Drivers must have a valid driver's license at all times.
  • Drivers must have a valid DOT medical card or the ability to obtain DOT medical card per DOT/FMCA guidelines during the hiring process. Drivers must continue to maintain their active medical card status throughout their employment.
  • Drivers must follow the DOT's HOS regulations.
  • Drivers must be able to obtain a CDL to drive commercial motor vehicles or combination vehicles weighing more than 26,000 lbs.
