Responsibilities:

Presbyterian Healthcare Services is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Peer Recovery Support Specialist to empower individuals on their recovery journey from mental health and substance use disorders. Drawing from personal lived experience, this role serves as a source of hope, encouragement, and guidance for patients working to achieve sustainable recovery and improved well-being.

As a Peer Recovery Support Specialist, you will provide non-clinical recovery coaching, helping patients identify strengths, overcome barriers, connect with resources, and successfully navigate their treatment and recovery plans. Working closely with patients, families, healthcare providers, and community partners, you'll play a vital role in bridging the gap between clinical care and long-term recovery support. Through mentorship, advocacy, and relationship-building, you'll help individuals gain confidence, strengthen resiliency, and build meaningful connections within their communities.

How you will support the team and our community.

  • Provide one-on-one recovery coaching and peer support based on shared lived experience and recovery principles.
  • Engage patients using Motivational Interviewing techniques to inspire positive change and support recovery goals.
  • Build trusting relationships that foster hope, empowerment, resiliency, and self-advocacy.
  • Assist patients in identifying personal strengths, recovery goals, and barriers to successful recovery.
  • Connect patients with community resources, support services, recovery programs, housing assistance, employment resources, healthcare services, and other essential supports.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams, community organizations, funders, and external partners to ensure continuity of care.
  • Support discharge planning by arranging follow-up appointments, transportation, and community-based recovery supports.
  • Maintain contact with patients following discharge to encourage ongoing engagement and recovery success.
  • Provide Naloxone education in collaboration with nursing and medical staff.
  • Track patient progress, outcomes, and program metrics while maintaining accurate documentation and compliance with organizational, state, and federal requirements.
  • Help create a positive, recovery-oriented environment that promotes patient growth, connection, and wellness.
  • Serve as a role model by demonstrating recovery, resilience, healthy coping strategies, and personal growth.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • Knowledge of community resources required.
  • Register for Peer Certification class within 6 months after hire
  • Current NM drivers license is preferred
  • Certified Narcan educator preferred
  • Trained in Motivational Interviewing Skills preferred
  • Previous experience working in hospital or ED setting preferred
  • Experience working with confidential medical records and documentation preferred.
  • Familiar with readiness assessment tools and SBIRT.
