Job Summary
Join our dynamic team as a Nuclear Facility Safety Engineer and play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of nuclear power systems. This position offers an exciting opportunity to apply your expertise in systems engineering, safety analysis, and design review within a high-stakes environment. You will lead safety assessments, develop technical documentation, and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to uphold the highest standards of nuclear safety and regulatory compliance. Your work will directly contribute to the safe generation of clean energy while advancing nuclear engineering practices.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive safety analyses of nuclear power systems, including radioactive waste management and radioactive material handling procedures.
  • Lead design reviews for nuclear facility systems, ensuring adherence to nuclear engineering design codes and standards such as ASME codes & standards and NRC regulations.
  • Develop and review technical documentation, including safety reports, system descriptions, and engineering calculations using programming languages like Python, C++, and Fortran.
  • Oversee system design processes for distributed control systems and mechanical components, integrating mechanical knowledge with nuclear safety requirements.
  • Manage technical projects related to system design modifications, upgrades, or new installations, ensuring compliance with quality assurance protocols.
  • Provide technical leadership in team settings, guiding junior engineers through complex analysis tasks and fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams during equipment fabrication and testing phases to ensure mechanical integrity and adherence to safety standards.
  • Apply analysis skills to evaluate potential radioactive waste impacts, system reliability, and failure modes under various operational scenarios.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of safety assessments, design reviews, and regulatory compliance activities in accordance with NRC regulations.

Requirements

  • Education & Years of Experience – Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, mathematics, chemistry, or physics and 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Citizenship – To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.
  • Clearance – To be considered, you MUST be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance.
  • Candidate MUST have demonstrated an ability in developing, implementing, and maintaining safety basis documentation in accordance with 10 CFR 830, Nuclear Safety Management, and applicable DOE directives and standards.
  • Candidates must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Desired Skills

  • Active DOE "Q" clearance is highly preferred.
