Tideman Marine, a division of United Plastic Fabricating, designs and manufactures high-density polyethylene (HDPE) boats for military and commercial marine use. Based in Ocala, Florida, USA, Tideman Marine operates a cutting-edge facility dedicated to designing and constructing welded HDPE vessels and custom marine products. 

Position Summary

Tideman Marine (TMMS) is seeking a Production Engineer to support the production of small commercial and specialty boats. This position serves as an important link between Engineering and Production, providing hands-on technical support to help ensure vessels are built safely, efficiently, and in accordance with engineering requirements.

The Production Engineer will spend significant time working directly with production personnel on the shop floor, troubleshooting technical issues, evaluating design and manufacturing challenges, and providing feedback to the Design Engineering team. The position will also support project scheduling, quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC), and continuous improvement activities.

The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of small boat construction and is comfortable working in a hands-on manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day engineering support to Production during the construction and outfitting of small boats.
• Troubleshoot and resolve structural, mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing issues encountered on the production floor.
• Work directly with production supervisors, leads, technicians, and other employees to identify practical solutions to technical problems.
• Review engineering drawings, specifications, and production requirements to assist with interpretation and implementation.
• Identify design-related production challenges and provide clear feedback and recommended changes to the Design Engineering team.
• Assist with engineering changes and ensure approved changes are properly communicated and implemented in Production.
• Support the development of practical, manufacturable solutions while maintaining engineering, quality, and customer requirements.
• Review project schedules and production progress to identify technical issues that could affect milestones or delivery dates.
• Assist with Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) activities, including inspections, documentation, identification of nonconforming conditions, and corrective actions.
• Support root-cause analysis and resolution of recurring production or quality issues.
• Collaborate with Naval Architecture, Design Engineering, Production, and Project Management throughout the vessel construction process.
• Provide technical support during vessel assembly, systems installation, testing, commissioning, and final inspection as needed.
• Recommend improvements to designs, production processes, standard work, tooling, and manufacturing methods.
• Maintain accurate engineering and technical documentation related to production issues and changes.
• Perform other engineering duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Maritime Systems, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or another applicable engineering discipline.
• 2–10 years of relevant engineering experience in marine manufacturing, boatbuilding, shipbuilding, or a related manufacturing environment.
• Familiarity with small boat structural, mechanical, and electrical systems.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, schematics, and technical documentation.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to translate engineering requirements into practical manufacturing solutions.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both engineering professionals and skilled production employees.
• Comfortable spending significant time on the production floor in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple technical issues and priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with small commercial, military, patrol, workboat, or similar vessel construction.
• Experience supporting vessel production from initial fabrication through final testing and delivery.
• Experience with QA/QC processes in a marine or manufacturing environment.
• Experience investigating production problems and implementing corrective actions.
• Experience with Rhino 3D is preferred but not required.
• Familiarity with CAD drawings and engineering change processes is beneficial.
