Saw Operator

Description

It is the responsibility of this position to operate and maintain the band saw equipment to cut and shape various materials according to specifications in a safe and efficient manner. This role requires accurate interpretation of blueprints and the ability to read a tape measure. This position will also receive and inventory all incoming structural steel and raw piping as required. It is the goal of the position to help establish and maintain all GasTech Engineering Facility and Equipment Assets to be the most respected process equipment provider in the markets, and for the customers we serve.

PRINCIPAL   DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The   responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

· Adhere to all established company safety expectations and procedures.

· Ability to work safely.

· Participate in safety audits and other types of leadership safety enforcement activities as required.

· Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve workflow and provide a safe and injury/accident-free workplace as instructed.

· Plan, organize and perform routine maintenance of the band saw. Responsible for maintaining sufficient inventory and other perishable parts of the saw to eliminate equipment downtime.

· Receive, stage, and organize structural steel and raw pipe lengths as required. 

· Organize and keep accurate inventory of cut and raw stock. 

· Develop cut lists for purchasing taking into consideration inventory on hand.

· Effectively measure and mark materials with a tape measure for cutting, (both in American and Metric units).

· Prepare, debur, grind, raw material for fabrication as required.

· Safely and effectively drive forklifts and run overhead cranes.

· Collaborate with team members to meet production targets and deadlines.

· Support ISO 9001 2015 Quality Management System.

· Reliable and punctual attendance.

· Positive and cooperative attitude.

· Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

· High school diploma or GED is required.

· Experience as a band saw operator or a similar role within a fabrication or manufacturing setting is required. 

· Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints or schematics is preferred. 

· Previous experience in an ISO 9001 environment is preferred.

· The ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality is required.

· The ability to operate heavy equipment, i.e. forklifts, overhead cranes is required.

· The ability to operate and maintain band saw equipment safely and efficiently is required. 

· Strong understanding and the ability to read a tape measure accurately is required.  

· Basic math skills are required, which includes the conversion of fractions and decimals. 

· Attention to detail to ensure accurate cuts and the ability to maintain quality standards is required. 

· The ability to cope beam, run a torch, and weld is preferred. 

· The ability to remain organized with a keen attention to detail in a fast-paced environment is required. 

· The ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines utilizing excellent time management skills is required.

· Strong and effective verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal and conflict resolution skills are required.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:

· This position is a manufacturing role with most of the work performed in our shop, which is a heavy construction and fabrication environment. 

· Must be able to withstand at least 10 hours of standing and walking. 

· Specific vision abilities required by this job include natural or corrected close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

· Long hours in the shop require fine dexterity use of hands/fingers for sustained periods of time.

· Must be physically able to climb ladders, bend, stoop, squat, and crawl into awkward spaces. 

· Must be able to lift 50 pounds without assistance.
