Salary starting from £76,500, salary dependent on skills and experience

Permanent / 37 hours per week / Full-time (with flexibility for part-time working)

Huntingdon, Lincoln or Peterborough – Hybrid

We're looking for a Digital Engineering Manager to lead our Software Engineering Practice and help shape the future of software delivery across Anglian Water. This is a leadership role that combines technical credibility, people leadership and strategic influence. You'll be responsible for creating an environment where engineers can thrive, engineering standards are consistently applied, and delivery teams are equipped to build secure, scalable, and resilient digital products.

You'll lead a community of software engineers spanning permanent employees and delivery partners, supporting their development while ensuring the organisation continues to evolve its engineering capability and ways of working.

As our Digital Engineering Manager, you'll:

• Lead and continuously develop the Software Engineering Practice across Anglian Water.
• Build a strong engineering culture focused on quality, collaboration, continuous improvement and customer value.
• Define and evolve engineering standards, guardrails, patterns and best practices.
• Partner with Product, Architecture, Cyber and other Digital, Data and Technology teams to ensure bespoke software products align to wider strategic outcomes.
• Provide leadership and line management for senior software engineers and lead software engineers.
• Support workforce planning, capability growth, recruitment and succession planning.
• Champion modern engineering practices including DevOps, automation, observability, secure-by-design development and continuous delivery.
• Drive improvements in engineering maturity through the use of meaningful metrics and performance insights.
• Identify opportunities to simplify, automate and improve the effectiveness of software delivery.
• Act as a senior technical leader, influencing investment decisions, technical direction and delivery approaches across the organisation.

You'll bring:

• Significant experience leading software engineering teams or practices within a complex technology environment.
• A strong software engineering background with the technical credibility to engage at both strategic and detailed levels.
• Experience building high-performing engineering teams and developing technical talent.
• Knowledge of modern software engineering practices, cloud-native delivery, DevOps, Artificial  Intelligence and engineering governance.
• Experience working within agile and product-centric delivery environments.
• Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence senior leaders and drive organisational change.
• A passion for coaching, mentoring and building inclusive, high-performing teams.
• Experience balancing technical excellence, risk management, technical debt and business outcomes.
• A collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively across Product, Architecture, Cyber Security and other DDaT functions.
