Bakery Technologist Co-op

Job Summary

The Bakery Technologist co-op is responsible for providing technical support to Bakeries from R&D standpoint on a wide range of subjects, including equipment testing, product quality improvement, production efficiency, product formulation and design etc. Additional tasks may include product development/improvement, ingredient evaluation and identifying cost-savings opportunities.  This is a production-focused Research and Development position and most days will be spent in the production environment running line trials, collecting samples and data, and troubleshooting issues as they arise. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with product development, quality assurance and manufacturing teams to support new product launches as well as the development/improvement of existing products.
  • Investigate and resolve product variations by applying scientific approach to product and process variables.
  • Improve current processes and establish new processes through innovation and testing of new technologies.
  • Become familiar with process and equipment capability.
  • Collect and analyze data to support product and process development.
  • Participate in line trials to establish the ideal product through the production process

 

Key Qualifications

  • You are PASSIONATE about food!
  • Post-Secondary education in Food Science, Food Technology, Science, Engineering or similar field.  
  • Previous experience working with food through work in a previous Co-op, food manufacturing site, or kitchen/bakery.
  • Mechanical aptitude for understanding the limits of plant equipment (a strong asset).
  • Strong analytical skills and fact-based decision-making capability.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with all team members.
  • Advanced knowledge in Microsoft office applications.
  • Valid G or G2 license and access to a vehicle is a must.
  • Weekend or extended shifts may be required on occasion.
