Location: Fort Stewart, GA – Fort Stewart-Hunter

Type: Non-Exempt

Work Schedule: Full-Time

Compensation: $42.00-$42.00/hr

Tessera is seeking a hardworking and expert Senior HVAC/Chilling Technician with a professional attitude.

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

  • Perform detailed inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on a wide variety of commercial HVAC systems and brands (e.g., chillers, boilers, air handling units, rooftop units, split systems, heat pumps, geothermal systems, and associated mechanical equipment).

  • Diagnose complex system issues, including capacity, airflow, mechanical, refrigerant, and control problems across multiple facilities.

  • Verify compliance of installed equipment and materials with contract requirements, manufacturer specifications, National Mechanical Code, and applicable Army/DoD guidance, recommending acceptance or rejection as appropriate.

  • Conduct functional and performance tests to ensure equipment operates properly, reliably, and within design parameters.

  • Work with and troubleshoot building automation and control systems including Johnson Controls (JCI), Honeywell, LON/LonWorks, and stand alone digital and analog control systems.

  • Diagnose control logic, sensor, actuator, and communication issues impacting system performance and occupant comfort.

  • Implement minor control adjustments and recommend larger programming or sequence changes to improve energy efficiency and system reliability.

  • Coordinate HVAC system operation with electrical, structural, and other building systems to ensure proper integration and performance.

  • Provide technical input to scopes of work, task orders, and contract modifications for HVAC repair, replacement, and modernization projects.

  • Support DPW personnel in reviewing contractor submittals, shop drawings, and layout plans for mechanical and control systems; recommend approval, rejection, or required revisions with technical justification.

  • Provide field based engineering and technical assessments to DPW leadership, including problem descriptions, root cause analysis, and proposed fixes/solutions for near term and long term remediation.

  • Assist in translating technical findings into executable work packages and task orders using appropriate contracting methods (e.g., in house contracts, USACE, IMCOM, or other vehicles as directed).

  • Support DPW’s mold mitigation and humidity control efforts by identifying HVAC related causes (e.g., ventilation imbalance, inadequate dehumidification, control sequencing issues) and proposing corrective actions.

  • Coordinate with environmental/mold assessment teams to ensure HVAC systems are operated and maintained in a manner that reduces risk of mold growth and maintains acceptable indoor environmental conditions.

  • Prepare clear, concise, and technically accurate reports, memorandums, and briefing materials describing HVAC issues, findings, recommended solutions, and associated risks and costs.

  • Develop diagrams, sketches, and summary tables to support contract modifications, task orders, and project planning.

  • Provide oral and written briefings to DPW leadership and other stakeholders, explaining complex technical issues and solutions in operational terms suitable for command level review.

  • Ensure all work complies with Army, DoD, installation policies, National Mechanical Code, and applicable safety and accident prevention provisions.

  • Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) when visiting construction sites, mechanical rooms, and other areas with physical, chemical, or environmental hazards.

  • Maintain required certifications (EPA 608 Universal) and complete Army/installation training as directed.

  • Coordinate with DPW, USACE, IMCOM, and other stakeholders as required to resolve technical issues impacting facility operations.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear technical reports and briefings suitable for DPW and command level review.

  • Ability to explain technical HVAC and control system issues to non technical stakeholders and support decision making for work prioritization, funding, and risk mitigation.

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial HVAC/mechanical engineering; specialized in a wide range of systems, brands, and types (e.g. chillers, boilers, AHUs, RTUs, heat pumps, geothermal, and control systems) required.

  • Minimum of 5 years experience as an engineering technician, building technician, mechanical maintenance technician required.

  • Must be in compliance with Georgia’s Board of Conditioned Air Contractors.

  • EPA 608 Universal Technician Certifcation required.

  • Must be able to complete installation-specific safety, mold, or mechanical system training

Physical Requirements:

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance. The physical demands of this position may be reasonably accommodated for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions on a case-by-case basis. 

  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.

  • Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.

  • Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.

Requirements:

  • A valid state driver’s license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera’s insurance.
