A Staff Scientist position in the Hsieh Lab located in the Human Biology Division is available immediately. The core focus of the Hsieh Lab is to interrogate the mechanisms by which post-transcriptional gene regulation governs cancer cell behavior at a molecular, cellular, and organismal level (Hsieh et al. Nature 2012, Liu et al. Science Translational Medicine 2019, Lim et al. Nature Communications 2021, Jana et al. Cancer cell 2023, Mishra et al. JCI 2026). The laboratory places a high emphasis of novel discoveries and academic development. New projects focused on tumor heterogeneity, somatic mosaicism, and mRNA-specific translation are currently underway and funded by multiple new NIH grants.
Responsibilities
For this position, the applicant will utilize murine and human genetics, whole transcriptome ribosome profiling, MSR-seq, functional genomics, RNA labeling/sequencing techniques, TMT mass spectrometry, various cellular and molecular assays, and a one-of-a-kind biorepository of primary and metastatic human prostate and bladder cancer samples to understand how the translation apparatus controls normal physiology and promotes cancer phenotypes including tumor heterogeneity and metastasis. The candidate will also be responsible for grant writing in collaboration with Dr. Hsieh.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A PhD and/or MD degree in a biomedical science discipline such as biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, computer science, computational biology, biostatistics, biomedical engineering, computer/electrical engineering, or other related fields
