We are currently recruiting for a full time Maintenance Assistant to join our team to carry out a range of day-to-day maintenance tasks in order to ensure the hospital is maintained in a safe and efficient functional order.
No specific qualifications needed however applicants will need to have a general background of maintenance work i.e. carpentry, plumbing, painting and decorating.
You will work 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday in the hospital

Your Day-to-Day…
- Assist with the maintenance and upkeep of non-specialist equipment across the hospital premises.
- Support the winter maintenance programme, including the safe removal of snow and ice from access roads, pathways and entrances.
- Carry out general maintenance, repair and decoration tasks in both internal and external areas, including basic drainage repairs.
- Conduct visual safety checks on small electrical appliances used throughout the hospital.
- Help maintain a clean, safe and welcoming environment by removing litter, waste and other obstructions from hospital grounds and buildings.
- Support daily maintenance activities and provide general portering assistance as required.
- Demonstrate a flexible approach to work, adapting to the needs of the hospital and its patient groups.
- Undertake minor repairs within your level of competence and assist in monitoring work carried out by specialist contractors.
- Assist with the routine maintenance and checking of heating and lighting systems.
- Carry out security-related duties when required.
- Complete scheduled maintenance inspections, checks and testing programmes.
- Report building defects, maintenance issues and potential hazards to the Head of Maintenance in a timely manner.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, patients, visitors and external contractors.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding patient information and hospital business at all times.
- Provide cover for colleagues during periods of absence, including annual leave and sickness.
- Participate in all mandatory training, induction programmes and ongoing development activities.
- Attend meetings and training courses as required.
- Conduct yourself in a professional, courteous and responsible manner at all times.
- Comply with all Health & Safety, Environmental, Fire Safety and Company policies and procedures.
- Ensure the safe storage, handling and control of hazardous substances in accordance with COSHH regulations.
- Adhere to all company rules, policies and operational procedures.
We are looking for people who have…
Previous experience working within a team and on your own in a maintenance / building contractors role
Previous experience of repairing of various equipment and materials, painting, decorating, plumbing, carpentry and basic wiring work.
Preferably hold a City & Guilds qualification or equivalent in Carpentry or plumbing.
A working knowledge of health and safety requirements and safe working practices.
A good practical knowledge in basic plumbing would be an advantage.
