Description

Job Description Summary

If you're a manufacturing engineer who finds more satisfaction on the production floor than behind a desk — and who bridges the gap between how something is designed and how it actually gets built — this role was shaped around your expertise.

At GE Vernova's Birr facility, you'll serve as the critical link between generator rotor design engineering and production, ensuring that what is drawn can be built to the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency. Your work directly supports the reliable delivery of 50 Hz and 60 Hz air-cooled, hydrogen-cooled, and liquid-cooled generators that power grids around the world.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Bridge design and manufacturing: Serve as the primary technical interface between the rotor design engineering team and the factory floor — translating engineering drawings, specifications, and requirements into clear, actionable direction for manufacturing teams.
  • Drive producibility improvements: Engage early in design reviews to assess manufacturing feasibility and systematically improve generator design for producibility, cost-effectiveness, and process capability — without compromising quality, safety, or performance.
  • Resolve technical issues: Lead resolution of design-to-manufacturing challenges, including nonconformances and deviations. Apply root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective and preventive action (CAPA) methodologies to address issues at their source and prevent recurrence.
  • Capture and apply lessons learned: Feed manufacturing insights back into design standards, product improvements, and new product introductions — ensuring the organization learns and improves with each production cycle.
  • Lead and develop: Provide technical oversight, mentor junior engineers, and support lean and continuous improvement initiatives that raise the bar across the production environment.

About You

You bring significant experience connecting engineering design with manufacturing reality, and you're equally comfortable in a design review and on the shop floor.

Required

  • A formal education and subsequent Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline is nice to have, but we are most interested in your total experience and professional achievements in generator or heavy electrical equipment manufacturing.
  • Significant experience in generator engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a design/manufacturing liaison role.
  • Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional technical problem-solving.
  • Experience with root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) methodologies.
  • Solid understanding of production planning, quality systems, and factory floor constraints.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and operations functions.

Preferred

  • Experience in a generator original equipment manufacturer (OEM), heavy electrical equipment, or comparable industrial environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of large generator components and manufacturing processes in one or more of the following areas:
    • Rotor construction
    • Armature core build
    • Armature winding
    • Armature lamination punching processes
    • Armature bar design and manufacturing

  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing and structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, 8D).
  • Experience with product lifecycle management (PLM), design change control, and configuration management.
