New Business Underwriter

Summary:

Responsible for underwriting and associated tasks for existing and new programs, with a focus on evaluating and quoting prospective new members.

Essential Duties and Functions: include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

• Make independent underwriting decisions using discretion.
• Underwrite new applications and renewal submissions according to Letter of Authority, if applicable.
• Determine acceptability of business.
• Maintain integrity of underwriting practices.
• Perform essential functions of Underwriter I at a higher degree of proficiency and for more complex programs.
• Provide training to Underwriter I and Underwriting Assistants as requested.
• Assist organization in formulating underwriting strategies for continued growth and profitability.
• Implement methods for promotion of policies or improvements to processes.
• Assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring quality control efforts.
• Serve as resource for organization on underwriting and technical insurance issues.
• Participate in developing underwriting rates and guidelines.
• Assist marketing programs to carriers along with existing and prospective insureds.
• Oversight of document issuance; indications, quotes etc. issued without errors.
• Review competitor quotes, binders, and policy forms to provide comparisons to pool coverage as requested.
• Other job-related projects or assignments as delegated.

Competencies:

• Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office programs.  Ability to learn other business software programs.
• Underwriting at the advanced level of position and difficulty.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work in teams.  Possess a positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills, the ability to analyze situations to make decisions, and be detail-oriented.
• Professional office dress is mandatory.  Must present oneself in a professional manner, including personal hygiene and appearance.
• Regular attendance is essential and expected for the effective operation of the company.

Qualifications:

Required:

• High school diploma.
• Obtain a Washington State Property & Casualty Insurance Producers License within 12 months (courses and testing provided by Company).

Preferred

• Math skills such as Business Math or basic accounting functions.
• Prior insurance experience or college degree.

Physical Requirements Necessary on a Regular Basis:

Manual dexterity, arm and upper body range of motion sufficient for use of a keyboard, mouse and telephone on a constant basis for at least 7-10 hours per day. Speech and hearing sufficient for in-person and telephone communication on a constant basis for at least 7-10 hours per day. Vision sufficient for use of a computer monitor. Ability to sit at a desk on a constant basis for at least 7-10 hours per day.

Annual Salary Range: $60,000 - $95,000 DOE

Pay Range

60000 - 95000 Annual

The pay range provided above is made in good faith and based on our lowest and highest annual salary or hourly rate paid for the role and takes into account years of experience required, geography, and/or budget for the role.
