About the Role:
This is a dual-track role combining hands-on technical instruction with a structured pathway to instructor certification through the National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training (NIBRT).

First, this position is a training and development role in which the incumbent will complete a structured certification pathway to become a credentialed NIBRT instructor for Ivy Tech Indianapolis. This pathway combines online academy coursework, mentorship from international NIBRT trainers, and in-person training at NIBRT's campus alongside industry experts and skilled technicians. Upon certification, the instructor will deliver NIBRT-licensed biomanufacturing curriculum locally, extending Ivy Tech Indianapolis's training capacity and industry credibility.

In its second capacity, the Biomanufacturing / API Operator Instructor is responsible for delivering structured foundational trainings for incumbent employees and new operators entering biotechnology and biomanufacturing operations. This role ensures learners achieve operator-level competency in biopharma production, aseptic processing, quality assurance, and current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) requirements. The instructor will translate core concepts such into applied, hands-on learning experiences that prepare employees to safely and effectively operate within a biomanufacturing production role.

Key Responsibilities

The following is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.

  • Approximately half of this role is dedicated to completing a structured, employer-sponsored certification pathway with NIBRT. Over the course of the first year, the incumbent will:
  • Complete coursework through the NIBRT online academy, building foundational and advanced knowledge of bioprocessing, upstream and downstream biomanufacturing, and cleanroom/aseptic technique.
  • Engage regularly with international NIBRT trainers and subject matter experts to build technical knowledge, refine hands-on process skills, and receive coaching on instructional delivery standards.
  • Travel to NIBRT's campus (Dublin, Ireland) for in-person, immersive training alongside industry experts and skilled technicians, gaining direct experience with NIBRT's pilot-scale bioprocessing equipment and facilities.
  • Progress through NIBRT's instructor development milestones, culminating in certification as a qualified NIBRT instructor authorized to teach NIBRT-licensed programs at Ivy Tech Indianapolis.
  • Collaborate with international NIBRT trainers and technicians, incorporating feedback to continually improve technical knowledge and teaching practice.
  • Complete certification milestones and maintain ongoing communication with NIBRT staff and international partners to stay current on curriculum updates, equipment changes, and best practices following certification.
  • Once trained, set up equipment and deliver NIBRT trainings in partnership with industry collaboratives.

The other half of the role is complementary to the above:

  • Deliver biomanufacturing non-credit classes as assigned.
  • Work a flexible schedule as dictated by the client company training demand.
  • Develop/maintain course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials. Maintains accurate student records, grades, and other requirements.
  • Initiate and follow through on evaluation processes that determine the viability of each training program delivered.
  • Assist in the identification of facility and equipment needs in the classroom.
  • Participate in training and professional development as needed.
  • Makes optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods.
  • Interacts with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner; complies with college policies, campus guidelines, and expectations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Pharmacy, Chemical/Biochemical Engineering, or related field. Equivalent relevant industry experience may be considered.

  • Experience delivering technical training or leading operator qualification programs.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to teach complex technical concepts to operators on a fundamental level.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally, including extended in-person training visits to NIBRT's campus in Dublin, Ireland, as required to complete the instructor certification pathway.
  • Ability to hold a valid passport and meet any travel/visa requirements associated with international training.
  • Commitment to completing the full NIBRT instructor certification pathway, including online coursework, remote mentorship, and in-person training components.

Preferred Experience

  • Significant industry experience in biopharmaceuticals, including clinical, laboratory, or manufacturing-based work.
  • Experience teaching adults or delivering technical training for skilled or technical work in the biopharmaceutical/biomanufacturing field.
  • Basic understanding of the regulatory frameworks governing biopharmaceutical manufacturing (e.g., FDA, cGMP, and related quality/regulatory standards).
  • Background in QA/QC, validation, or manufacturing support roles.
  • Experience with training systems in regulated GMP environments.
  • Prior exposure to NIBRT, or other internationally recognized bioprocessing training programs, curricula, or credentialing bodies.
  • Experience working or training in an international or cross-cultural setting.
