SUMMARY
Q2 is seeking a Cloud Platform Engineer to join our Cloud Engineering organization. As part of the Azure-focused cloud engineering team, you will help build, operate, and improve secure, reliable cloud infrastructure and platform services that support business-critical applications.
Our team collaborates closely with application engineering, DevOps, security, architecture, and infrastructure teams to deliver scalable cloud environments, improve developer productivity, and strengthen the reliability, observability, and operational maturity of our platforms across Azure and AWS.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, implement, and maintain secure, scalable cloud infrastructure and platform services with Azure as the primary cloud platform.
- Support AWS-based infrastructure and multi-cloud initiatives; candidates with limited AWS experience should be willing to learn and build proficiency.
- Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform to improve consistency, repeatability, and operational efficiency.
- Deploy, operate, and troubleshoot containerized workloads and platform services using Kubernetes, with hands-on experience in AKS and/or EKS strongly valued.
- Partner with development and DevOps teams to integrate cloud infrastructure, platform services, and automation into CI/CD workflows.
- Monitor production environments, troubleshoot infrastructure and platform issues, and participate in incident response to minimize downtime and improve service reliability.
- Develop automation using scripting or programming languages such as Python, Bash, Go, or PowerShell to reduce manual work and improve operational consistency.
- Implement observability practices, including monitoring, logging, alerting, dashboards, and tracing, to improve platform visibility and operational response.
- Support cloud security, compliance, vulnerability remediation, backup, disaster recovery, and governance practices in partnership with security and infrastructure teams.
- Contribute to reliability improvements, capacity planning, cost optimization, documentation, and continuous improvement of platform engineering practices.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
- Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field and a minimum of 5 years of related experience.
- Hands-on experience in Cloud Engineering, DevOps, Platform Engineering, Cloud Infrastructure, or Infrastructure Engineering.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Azure cloud services and platform engineering practices.
- Experience with AWS cloud services is preferred; candidates without deep AWS experience should be open to learning and supporting AWS environments.
- Proficient with Infrastructure as Code and automation tools, especially Terraform and modern CI/CD workflows.
- Experience running or supporting production workloads in Kubernetes and Docker, including hands-on work with managed Kubernetes platforms such as AKS and/or EKS.
- Understanding of cloud networking concepts such as virtual networks/VPCs, DNS, routing, load balancing, private connectivity, firewalls, and security groups/network security groups.
- Experience with identity, access management, secrets management, encryption, and least-privilege cloud security practices.
- Proficient with scripting or programming languages such as Python, Bash, Go, or PowerShell.
- Experience with observability tools and cloud monitoring best practices, such as Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, CloudWatch, Prometheus, and Grafana.
- Strong troubleshooting, incident response, documentation, collaboration, and communication skills in production cloud environments.
- Familiarity with FinOps, cloud cost optimization, disaster recovery, backup, and compliance practices is preferred.
This position requires fluent written and oral communication in English.
