LifeSouth Community Blood Centers is seeking a Specialty Product Services Specialist to join our team in Gainesville, FL. In this role, you’ll help manage the storage, inventory, preparation, documentation, and shipment of blood components while ensuring every product is handled accurately, safely, and in accordance with strict quality and regulatory standards.
We’re looking for a detail-oriented, dependable team player who can stay organized and focused in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment. The ideal candidate is comfortable managing multiple priorities, following detailed procedures, working independently, and making sound decisions while maintaining a high standard of accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete all tasks timely, accurately, and in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); abide by all safety and personal protective equipment (PPE) policies
- Ensure adequate inventory of supplies and materials
- Provide the highest level of customer service to internal and external customers
- Assist with resolving customer complaints or issues as directed
- Comply with relevant federal and state laws and regulations regarding confidentiality and privacy of health information
- Report deviations as appropriate and assist with closure of deviations as requested
- Represent and communicate LifeSouth favorably to the public and to the participating institutions
- Receive, inspect, and evaluate blood products to make sure they are safe, pure, and potent; secure product(s) that do not meet the required criteria by physically separating, quarantining within blood banking software, and notifying the Assistant Manager – Specialty Product Services
- Review shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules
- Pack blood products, blood samples, tubes and other items for shipment according to established packing procedures
- Perform temperature monitoring of blood storage equipment and supplies as outlined in SOP
- Perform daily quality control of equipment; report equipment malfunctions to the Assistant Manager – Specialty Product Services
- Generate and maintain appropriate and accurate shipment documents based on customer and/or product requirements and provide to Assistant Manager – Specialty Product Services
- Receive and carry out blood orders via blood banking software
- Ensure timely review, accuracy, and completeness of records in compliance with federal and state privacy and confidentiality requirements
Skills and Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Basic computer proficiency, including experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint); ability to learn blood bank-specific software
- Knowledge of recordkeeping practices in accordance with compliance and regulatory standards
- Knowledge of state and federal laws, rules, and regulations related to the confidentiality and privacy of personal information, including protected health information
- Critical thinking and analytical skills with the ability to make decisions consistent with SOPs and regulatory guidelines
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, customers, and external partners
- Effectiveness in a fast-paced, time-critical team environment
- Flexibility to work in a variety of physical environments
- Valid driver's license required; must meet and maintain LifeSouth's driver eligibility requirements
- Prior experience in data or inventory management in a laboratory, blood bank, and/or research environment preferred

LifeSouth is a non-profit community blood bank serving more than 150 hospitals in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee. With more than 45 donor centers, 55 bloodmobiles and 2,000 blood drives a month, our LifeSouth team is dedicated to making sure the blood is there when you or your family is in need.
