Job Summary

Under the direction of the Competitive Swimming Director, responsibilities of this position include coaching duties with an emphasis on safety, proper skill, team member development, seasonal planning, daily workouts, goal setting, optimizing apparel sales and brand presence within the Flying Dolphins swim business, and promotion of both competitive swimming and Flying Dolphins’s core values and team goals.

Job Responsibilities Include

  • In concert with the Director, Competitive Swimming, lead the establishment of the swim team mission, values and vision.
  • Responsible for the administration and daily operations of the YFD Swimming Program.
  • Direct the daily operations of the YFD Swimming Program, with special emphasis on the Age Group program.
  • Direct, recruit, train, and manage the team of Assistant Coaches.
  • Assist with drafting and achieving YFD budget as well as the overall Aquatic Division budget.
  • Accountable for the successful achievement of Age Group registration target numbers.
  • Oversee and promote the YFD Team Store in partnership with TYR, ensuring families purchase required and recommended team apparel and equipment through the YFD website.
  • Establish, develop and maintain positive relationships with team members to drive sales and patron engagement.
  • Research customers’ needs, interests, and desire for new products and, in collaboration with the Director, Competitive Swimming, explore delivery options of these products.
  • Develop and achieve Team Store annual budget.
  • Direct operations and provide oversight as the liaison with Teamunify and TYR.
  • Schedule and manage session balances for private coaching athletes
  • Oversee the Swim Squad program to create a strong bridge between recreational and competitive aquatics.
  • Direct the delivery of high-quality programming and pool experiences at 92NY and off-site locations.
  • Coordinate with various departments including Marketing, Building Operations and Public Relations to effectively promote and run aquatics programming.
  • Schedule and organize special events including team banquets, fundraising, senior recognition and community engagement events.
  • Work with Team Sponsors in the ordering, distribution, inventory and collection of equipment.
  • Provide a minimum of sixteen weekly hours of on-deck coaching.
  • Lead and develop comprehensive dryland and pool training for the age group program.
  • Attend off-site swim meets as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Experience, Education, & Skills Desired

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, marketing, or related field preferred.
  • 4+ years of coaching experience (ASCA level 2 or higher preferred).
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working in customer service or office environment.
  • Extremely well organized and detailed oriented with developed computer skills.
  • Thrives in team settings with strong interpersonal skills but can be self-motivated to tackle large projects.
  • Excellent, diplomatic communications skills.
  • Excellent technical skills including the use of video equipment and software.
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills including the ability to prioritize and complete tasks by established deadlines.
  • Represent the Swimming program in a professional, positive, and energetic manner.
  • Successfully complete a background check.
  • Current USA Swimming (which include CPR/AED) certification required.

Work Environment & Requirements

40 hours/week, with flexibility to support program needs, including evenings and weekends as required.
