Brookfield Energy is entering a period of continued growth, with significant capital expected to be deployed across development, acquisitions and strategic partnerships. As the business expands across technologies, markets and geographies, the scale and complexity of its commercial, transactional and insurable risks will continue to increase.
Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Portfolio Management and Risk, the Director, Risk (Insurance) will serve as a senior member of the global insurance function and a key partner to the function leader. This role will lead global insurance programs across all commercial lines, provide commercially focused risk advice to senior stakeholders and lead insurance diligence in support of acquisitions, development activity, financings and other strategic capital deployment.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the placement, renewal and ongoing management of global insurance programs across all commercial lines.
- Partner with brokers, insurers and internal stakeholders on renewal strategy, market submissions and program execution.
- Lead insurance due diligence for acquisitions, financings and other strategic transactions.
- Review portfolio insurance programs and advise on coverage, risk transfer and contractual requirements.
- Provide commercial insurance and risk advice to business units, senior stakeholders, lenders and partners.
- Monitor portfolio exposures, claims trends and insurance market developments, and provide relevant reporting and analysis.
- Support significant claims, premium allocations and key insurance-related projects across the global portfolio.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or relevant post-secondary education in insurance or risk management
- 8 to 10 years of relevant experience in corporate risk management, insurance brokerage or underwriting.
- Power, utilities or infrastructure experience is an asset; professional designations such as CIP, FCIP or CRM are preferred.
- Strong commercial judgment, analytical capability and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, including experience with senior management.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, with demonstrated knowledge of and interest in artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies.
- Occasional travel is required.
