About The Position:

Provides professional speech-language pathology diagnostic and treatment services to assist persons with communication and/or swallowing disorders to attain, regain, or maintain communication and swallowing function.

What You'll Be Doing:

• Performs diagnostic evaluations of persons with cognitive, communication and/or swallowing disorders, such as aphasia, apraxia, dysarthria, cognitive disorders and dysphagia. Diagnostic evaluations include behavioral observation, and instrumental, standardized, and non-standardized testing procedures.
• Adapts diagnostic tools and treatment materials and procedures for culturally/linguistically diverse patient populations; utilizes interpreters/translators as necessary for evaluation, treatment, and family training.
• Analyzes, interprets and evaluates test results to determine patients' cognitive, communication and swallowing abilities; utilizes assessment information to develop appropriate treatment goals and plans for rehabilitation. 
• Prepares reports of diagnostic evaluations; analyses, interprets, and makes recommendations for treatment which become part of each patients’ medical records for use in consultation with physicians, dentists, dieticians, educators, case managers, social workers and other allied health professionals.
• Selects and implements treatment utilizing therapy principles and procedures that are compatible with patient needs and capacities as identified in the diagnostic evaluation process. Treatment programs include individual and group sessions as appropriate for the patient.

A Master's degree* from an accredited college or university with specialization in Communication Disorders, Speech Pathology or a related field.

* To receive credit for your education, include a legible copy of all relevant official documents including your diploma, official transcript, or letter/certificate from an accredited institution. Unofficial transcripts are not acceptable to fulfill the educational requirement. The document should show the date the degree was conferred and be in English; if it is in a foreign language, it must be translated and evaluated for equivalency to U.S. standards if not listed in the International Handbook of Universities or World Higher Education Database. LICENSE(S) AND CERTIFICATE(S):
A valid and unrestricted license** to practice Speech Pathology issued by the California Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensers Board to practice speech pathology -AND- A valid and unrestricted Certificate** of Clinical Competence as a Speech-Language Pathologist issued by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association.

A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

List the title, license number, issue date, expiration date, and issuing agency for all required licenses. All required licenses and certifications should be active and without restrictions.

PHYSICAL CLASS II - Light:
This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort which may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit, and some bending, stooping or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

Withhold Information:
No withhold will be allowed for this examination. Required education and licensure must be fully met at the time of filing and clearly indicated on the application.

EXAMINATION CONTENT:

Non-Competitive Examination - This opportunity is considered noncompetitive, meaning you will only need to meet the requirements. If you do, we will put you on a list with everyone who qualifies. Candidates entitled to veteran’s credit will be placed ahead of candidates who are not entitled to veteran’s credit. For information on veteran’s credit, please review the Employment Information section of this job posting. This list will be used to fill vacancies as they occur.

 Applicants will be placed on a list of eligible candidates without indication of relative standing in the examination.  The appointing power may appoint any one of the names on the appropriate list, except a person without Veterans credit may not be appointed if there are three or more names on the list of persons entitled to Veteran’s credit.
