The Opportunity
Reporting to the Power Desk Manager, Power Desk Analyst is responsible for understanding natural gas system operations and commercial objectives to meet the needs of our customers. You will combine business acumen and operational knowledge in working with Gas Control and other internal stakeholders to make decisions and recommendations related to the operation of our natural gas pipeline. You will use real-time monitoring software, review legal agreements, perform data analysis, document processes, and prepare reports to support internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will be focused on safety, customer service, and continuous improvement.
What you'll do
- Cover multiple pipeline and regional areas with different operational requirements, working toward a broad system and business understanding.
- Work directly with power plant fuel managers and plant operators to ensure they operate within their operational entitlements
- Work closely with electric grid Regional Transmission Organizations and Independent System Operators (RTOs/ISOs) to improve gas/electric coordination.
- Represent TC Energy in meetings with customers, industry conferences, FERC, Regional Power Authorities, and other regulatory agencies as necessary to support technical aspects of company operations.
- Work with internal stakeholders and customers daily to coordinate and communicate maintenance and operational issues impacting national gas fired power plant.
- Support Commercial Operations teams (Gas Control, Operations Planning, System Design, Noms & Scheduling) in daily and seasonal operations and planning.
- Work with customers to hit incremental revenue targets through interruptible transport sales.
- Work with stakeholders to develop business processes, document procedures, and influence outcomes to gain consensus and achieve commercial objectives.
- Combine commercial data, stakeholder inputs, and technical data to recommend modifications to tariffs, contracts, and business practices.
- Create and support analysis tools and automate processes to improve historical reporting and real-time displays.
- Prepare reports, create material, and give presentations to senior leadership, marketing, and customers.
- Partner with Marketing and Business Development to identify growth opportunities related to power customers.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field
- 4+ years of experience (preferably in the energy industry and/or data analytics)
- Previous experience pipeline operations or commercial activities
- Strong Microsoft Office based application skills
- Strong planning, organizational, analytical, problem solving, and technical skills
- Strong oral and written business communication skills
- Ability to apply technical documents, guidelines, policies, and procedures
- Effective in a rapidly changing environment with changing priorities
- Ability to travel in North America for meetings or training at other company locations
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with data analytics tools (e.g. ChatGPT, Copilot, SQL, Python, PowerBI) and data analytics techniques
- Familiar with policies, procedures and legislation that impact power plant and pipeline operations
