Duties

The Quality Inspector is responsible for inspecting machined parts and assemblies to verify conformance to engineering drawings, specifications, customer requirements, and applicable quality standards. This role performs dimensional inspections using precision measuring tools and ZEISS CMM equipment, develops and runs CALYPSO inspection programs, documents inspection results, creates Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), identifies nonconforming material, and supports production and quality teams in resolving quality issues.

## What you’ll do

Quality Control:

\- Perform inspections of machined parts and assemblies for conformance to engineering drawings, specifications, customer requirements, and quality requirements using precision measuring tools and inspection equipment.

\- Develop and run ZEISS CALYPSO CMM programs, validate measurement results against drawing tolerances, and ensure inspection methods are accurate and repeatable.

Documentation:

\- Maintain accurate and detailed inspection records to support quality control procedures, traceability, and audit readiness.

\- Identify, document, and report nonconforming parts and assemblies. Create Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) when defects, dimensional discrepancies, or specification mismatches are found.

\- Complete all required inspection documentation, job travelers, reports, and quality records associated with each work order.

Reporting:

\- Communicate inspection results, quality issues, and nonconformance findings clearly and professionally to production teams, quality teams, engineering, and management.

Continuous Improvement: Participate in continuous improvement activities to improve inspection accuracy, product quality, and production efficiency.

Compliance:

\- Ensure inspection activities comply with applicable quality standards and requirements, including ISO 9001, AS9100, ASME Y14.5, ANSI standards, customer specifications, and internal quality procedures.

\- Comply with safety standards.

Collaboration:

\- Work closely with production, engineering, and quality teams to resolve quality issues.

\- Maintain a clean and organized work area.

\- Monitor inspection equipment and instrumentation to ensure proper condition, calibration status, and readiness for use.

## Who we’re looking for

\- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a Quality Inspector, QC Inspector, or CMM Quality Inspector role, preferably in a machine shop or precision manufacturing environment.

\- Be able to follow instructions and procedures and work with minimal supervision.

Knowledge:

\- Solid understanding of dimensional inspection, blueprint reading, GD&T, and applicable quality standards, including ISO 9001, AS9100, ASME Y14.5, ANSI standards, and customer-specific requirements.

Physical Requirements:

\- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs and stand for extended periods of time.

Skills:

\- Proficient in the use of precision measuring tools and equipment, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, indicators, pin gauges, thread gauges, optical comparators, and other standard inspection equipment. Strong understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).

\- Hands-on ZEISS CMM and CALYPSO software experience, including developing inspection programs, running existing programs, setting up machined parts and assemblies for inspection, validating measurement results, troubleshooting measurement issues, and coaching/training other inspectors on proper setup and inspection techniques.

Education:

\- High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree in a technical field is a plus.

Lam offers a variety of work location models based on the needs of each role. Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories – On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. ‘On-site Flex’ you’ll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. ‘Virtual Flex’ you’ll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.

Salary

CA San Francisco Bay Area Salary Range for this position: $21.15 - $41.83.

The above salary range for this position is relevant to applicants that reside or work onsite in the California, San Francisco Bay Area only. Salary offers will depend on factors that include the location you work from, your level, education, training, specific skills, years of experience and comparison to other employees already in this role. Actual salary may vary from salary offered due to numerous factors including but not limited to unpaid time off, unpaid leave, company mandated shutdown, and other relevant factors.
