Job Responsibilities:

Welocalize is looking for a WordPress Developer to bring website maintenance and backend development in-house across our six brand sites: welocalize.com, welodata.ai, parkip.com, adaptworldwide.com, welolifesciences.com, and weloglobal.com. This work currently sits with an outside agency and we're looking for someone who can own it internally — with faster turnaround, better institutional knowledge, and closer collaboration with our Marketing and front-end teams.
The platform is a WordPress Multisite environment. You'll work alongside an internal front-end developer who handles content management, page building, and UX — your focus is the backend: keeping the platform healthy, building custom functionality, and managing deployments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Keep all six brand sites up to date — security patches, plugin updates, and core updates on a routine and emergency basis.
  • Monitor site health, uptime, and performance; coordinate with our hosting provider (Pantheon) on backups, restores, and incident response.
  • Serve as the internal point of contact for WordPress-related technical requests, triaging and prioritising work coming from Marketing and other teams.
  • Handle day-to-day development requests: bug fixes, small feature builds, and plugin configuration.
  • Build and maintain custom Gutenberg blocks (PHP + JS) and handle PHP theme modifications as needed.
  • Manage the Webpack-based build process and SCSS structure for the shared theme.
  • Own the deployment pipeline — Git-based deployments across Dev, Test, and Live on Pantheon — and review front-end changes before they go live.
  • Set up and configure hosting environments, domain onboarding, and SSL on Pantheon.
  • Maintain third-party integrations — forms, GTM, translation connectors, and APIs.
  • Respond to critical incidents: site down, data loss, or security breach across any brand site.
  • Conduct accessibility technical reviews (axe DevTools, screen reader testing) and implement approved fixes.
  • Build and maintain internal technical documentation — this role replaces an outside agency, so knowledge retention matters from day one.

REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience

  • 3+ years of WordPress development experience, ideally including Multisite environments.
  • Solid PHP skills and hands-on experience with Gutenberg block development (PHP + JS).
  • Comfortable with SCSS/CSS, BEM methodology, and a build tool such as Webpack.
  • Familiar with WordPress security fundamentals — patching, hardening, vulnerability response.
  • Experience with Git and staging/production deployment workflows.
  • Good communicator — you'll work closely with Marketing, front-end, and IT and need to translate technical issues clearly.

Additional Qualifications

  • Experience with Pantheon or a comparable managed WordPress hosting platform.
  • Familiarity with multilingual WordPress setups (MultilingualPress, WPML, or similar).
  • Experience with Composer for PHP dependency management.
  • Working knowledge of DNS, domain configuration, and SSL basics.
  • Exposure to translation management integrations (Phrase, Smartling, or similar).
