Head Varsity Fencing Coach

The Hun School of Princeton seeks a dynamic and creative Head Varsity Fencing Coach who reports to the Co-Directors of Athletics. 

The Hun School Athletic Program is proud of our education through athletics. We have a strong athletic tradition at Hun, but success is broadly defined. Competition and winning are important aspects of any program, but do not control the scope of our athletic philosophy. The measurement of success will not be judged by the tangible evidence of victory or defeat, but by the intangible personal development and shared memories that make the effort and experience worthwhile. We compete amongst the top independent and public schools in the region as well as compete at 

Responsibilities:

• Serve as the Head Varsity Coach for the boys and girls Fencing program;
• To set goals for the entire program and monitor progress in collaboration with the Co-Directors of Athletics;
• Develop, plan, coordinate, and execute daily practices and training;
• Supervise and collaborate with the program coaches to create a cohesive and inclusive program;
• Instruct and demonstrate skill sets and techniques necessary for development and athletic achievement in the sport of fencing, from beginner to elite athletes;
• Assist with monitoring, distributing, and collecting equipment
• Keep accurate records of inventory, roster, attendance, and seasonal statistics;
• Work with Athletic department to offer out of season opportunities for growth in accordance with the bylaws of the MAPL and within the values of the school;
• Evaluate the coaches of your program in collaboration with the Co-Directors;
• Effectively communicate and collaborate with Co-Directors, families, student-athletes, and other necessary stakeholders;
• Promote the program within the school and in the community to actively support the admissions process;
• Create a plan to assist student athletes who are interested in the college recruiting process;
• Continuous professional growth; 
• Ensure a positive environment aligned with our school’s mission;
• Contributions to The Hun School community life beyond the practice and competition venue to assist in furthering the mission of the school.

Qualifications:

• Previous competitive coaching/experience at the club, high school, or college level;
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop strong relationships with students, staff, parents, alumni, and community members;
• Ability to foster a positive team spirit as well as individual skill improvement;
• Availability to work a flexible schedule that includes some nights and weekends;
• First Aid and CPR training - or have the ability to be trained;
• Willingness to get certified as CDL Driver Class C (not required, but preferred);
• A love for working with young people and a commitment to a diverse and inclusive community;
• A desire to contribute to school life outside of the classroom on a lively boarding school campus.

Seasonal Coaching Stipend Range: $7,800 to $10,500 The starting salary will be determined based on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
