Summary:

The Employee Health & Infection Prevention Nurse is responsible for coordinating and maintaining the hospital's employee health and infection prevention programs. This role promotes a safe environment for patients, staff, providers, and visitors through surveillance, education, regulatory compliance, outbreak management, employee health services, and quality improvement initiatives. The nurse serves as a key resource for infection prevention practices while supporting employee wellness, occupational health, and exposure management activities throughout the organization.

Responsibilities:

    • Coordinate employee health services including new hire screenings, immunization compliance, TB surveillance, exposure management, and return-to-work clearances.
    • Conduct infection surveillance, investigate potential outbreaks, and monitor healthcare-associated infection trends.
    • Monitor compliance with infection prevention practices, including hand hygiene, isolation precautions, sterilization, and environmental safety standards.
    • Analyze and report employee health and infection prevention data to support regulatory compliance and performance improvement initiatives.
    • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and educational programs related to employee health, workplace safety, and infection prevention.
    • Serve as a resource for staff, providers, and leadership regarding occupational health, communicable diseases, and infection control standards.
    • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support patient safety, employee wellness, accreditation readiness, and emergency preparedness activities.

Qualifications:

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program required.
  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Licensure and Certifications

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New Mexico required.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) preferred or obtained within a designated timeframe.

Experience

  • Minimum three (3) years of clinical nursing experience required.
  • Previous experience in employee health, infection prevention, occupational health, quality improvement, public health, or acute care nursing strongly preferred.
  • Experience interpreting healthcare regulations and infection surveillance data preferred
