The Epic Application Analyst – Patient Access supports Epic applications focused on Cadence, Prelude, and Real-Time Eligibility (RTE). This position supports patient registration, scheduling, insurance verification, eligibility, and front-end revenue cycle workflows through application build, configuration, testing, implementation, optimization, and production support.

Purpose

The Epic Application Analyst – Patient Access supports the implementation, maintenance, optimization, and ongoing operation of Epic Patient Access applications, with primary responsibility for Cadence, Prelude, and Real-Time Eligibility (RTE).

This position collaborates with clinical, operational, and technical teams to analyze workflows, design system solutions, troubleshoot application issues, and improve patient registration, scheduling, insurance verification, eligibility, and front-end revenue cycle processes.

Responsibilities

Application Implementation and Support

  • Analyze clinical, business, and technical processes to develop system solutions supporting Epic Patient Access applications, including Cadence, Prelude, and Real-Time Eligibility (RTE).

  • Manage application upgrades, implementations, optimization initiatives, and assigned projects.

  • Provide technical and application assistance to clients and IT staff supporting patient registration, scheduling, insurance verification, and eligibility workflows.

Workflow Analysis and Optimization

  • Conduct workflow analysis to identify opportunities for improving patient registration, scheduling, insurance verification, eligibility, and front-end revenue cycle workflows.

  • Design and implement application solutions to meet departmental and operational needs.

  • Collaborate with departments and stakeholders to prioritize development initiatives, enhancements, and workflow optimization.

  • Support effective system utilization by aligning application functionality with operational processes.

System Maintenance and Troubleshooting

  • Maintain and support Epic Patient Access applications, including Cadence, Prelude, and Real-Time Eligibility (RTE).

  • Configure, test, troubleshoot, install, and maintain assigned Epic application modules.

  • Investigate and resolve application issues involving payer connectivity, eligibility responses, insurance verification, scheduling, and registration workflows.

  • Ensure system changes follow established testing, documentation, and change-management procedures.

  • Participate in daily production support and implementation activities.

Documentation and Training

  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for assigned applications, configurations, workflows, and system changes.

  • Develop, plan, and execute testing for supported Epic Patient Access applications.

  • Prepare clear instructions, reference materials, and application documentation.

  • Collaborate with IT educators to update training plans, documentation, and user-support resources.

Customer and Vendor Liaison

  • Serve as a liaison between the IT Department, operational departments, external vendors, and clients.

  • Facilitate meetings, provide clear project and application updates, and assist with resolving technical and operational concerns.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify application requirements and recommend appropriate solutions.

  • Provide project-management support as required.

Mentorship and Additional Support

  • Serve as a mentor to junior analysts and supervise assigned work efforts as directed by the manager.

  • Participate in an on-call rotation schedule and provide after-hours support as necessary.

  • Travel occasionally to other offices for user support, training, implementations, and conferences.

  • Adhere to internal controls and reporting structures.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Technical Expertise

  • Knowledge of Epic Patient Access applications, including Cadence, Prelude, and Real-Time Eligibility.

  • Ability to analyze, configure, modify, test, and support Epic software applications.

  • Ability to troubleshoot complex application issues, design effective solutions, and maintain system integrity.

  • Knowledge of patient registration, scheduling, insurance verification, eligibility, payer connectivity, and front-end revenue cycle workflows.

Project Management

  • Ability to manage system upgrades, application initiatives, and assigned projects.

  • Ability to develop timelines, coordinate resources, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.

Workflow Analysis

  • Ability to analyze workflows, identify inefficiencies, and recommend effective application solutions.

  • Ability to collaborate with stakeholders to implement workflow and system improvements.

Communication

  • Strong verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to serve as an effective liaison among IT teams, vendors, clients, and operational stakeholders.

  • Ability to facilitate meetings, provide clear updates, and resolve concerns professionally.

Documentation

  • Ability to create and maintain comprehensive technical and operational documentation.

  • Ability to develop clear instructions, update application materials, and ensure documentation is accessible and current.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Health Informatics, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.

  • At least three years of experience supporting Epic Patient Access applications, including application build, configuration, testing, implementation, optimization, and production support.

  • Experience supporting patient registration, scheduling, insurance verification, eligibility workflows, and front-end revenue cycle operations.

  • Experience configuring and supporting Epic Real-Time Eligibility workflows, including payer connectivity, eligibility-response troubleshooting, and insurance-verification optimization.

  • Demonstrated experience analyzing workflows, gathering requirements, developing application solutions, and collaborating with operational stakeholders.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five or more years of experience supporting Epic Patient Access applications.

  • Experience optimizing Epic Cadence, Prelude, and Real-Time Eligibility workflows.

  • Advanced Epic Decision Tree build experience.

  • Experience with Epic Welcome.

  • Experience with Epic Referrals and Authorizations.

  • Experience with Epic Grand Central.

  • Experience supporting enterprise Epic implementations, upgrades, stabilization efforts, and optimization initiatives.

  • Project Management Professional or ITIL certification.

Licenses/Registrations/Certifications

Required

  • Epic Cadence Certification.

  • Epic Prelude Certification.

  • Epic Real-Time Eligibility Certification.

Preferred

  • Epic Decision Trees Badge.

  • Epic Welcome Certification.

  • Epic Referrals and Authorizations Certification.

  • Epic Grand Central Certification.

  • Additional relevant Epic certifications, accreditations, or credentials.

  • Project Management Professional or ITIL certification.

Salary Range

$79,316+ depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

  • Standard office environment and equipment.

  • Repetitive use of a keyboard and computer.

  • May participate in an on-call rotation and provide after-hours application support as necessary.

  • Occasional travel may be required for user support, training, implementations, and conferences.

  • May be exposed to communicable diseases, blood-borne pathogens, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, hazardous medications, and disoriented or combative patients while supporting healthcare environments.
