About the Job:
PURPOSE STATEMENT:The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operation of housekeeping activities and scheduling needed to maintain a clean and healthy environment for client care.
Roles and Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintains all areas of the facility for proper cleaning and disinfecting.
- Supervises the day-to-day housekeeping operations and daily quality control adhering to infection control measures and applicable laws and regulations.
- Identifies and prioritizes issues of importance, including those priority issues as set by leadership. Collaborates with department leaders and corporate leaders, as needed.
- Communicates instructions, expectations and timelines clearly and concisely.
- Performs routine and specific cleaning and custodial tasks in the general upkeep, sanitation and cleanliness for the facility.
- Supervises a team of highly engaged members through hiring, orienting, performance assessment and management, motivating, training, scheduling, and coaching to meet department goals and ensure effective and efficient department operation.
- Maintains productivity levels that are aligned with client census, curtailing unnecessary overtime and/or excessive staff work hours.
- Manages staff scheduling and maintains an updated plan for contingency staffing.
- Maintains accountability expectations for staff in all areas of job performance.
- Engages staff in quality and safety basics to ensure sustained, measurable compliance.
- Identifies staff educational needs and ensures they are addressed with education programs that are attended by staff.
- Hold staff accountable for non-compliance and client safety concerns, as well as attendance, following policies, behavior, and adherence to code of conduct.
- Instructs staff in the use of new equipment and cleaning methods, and proper disposal of hazardous or infectious waste/items.
- Maintains adequate and economical inventory of cleaning materials, supplies, and equipment, and of clean linens for department/unit use.
- Provides guidance and direction to staff to ensure work assignments and cleaning schedules are followed as outlined for respective shift/area. Maintains a cleaning schedule.
- Ensures that the SDS (Safety Data Sheet) database is always up to date.
- Maintains quality indicator checklists as needed and follows up.
- Prepares rooms for meetings and arranges decorations and furniture for the facility.
- Assists in other housekeeping duties, such as moves and arranges furniture, turns mattresses, cleans kitchens, cooking utensils, silverware, sweeps, scrubs, waxes, or polishes floors, as needed.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or GED required, OR equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Two or more years of housekeeping experience in a commercial, clinic or healthcare environment required.
- Knowledge of sanitation techniques and equipment operation with training in universal precautions and infection control preferred.
- Basic reading, writing, speaking skills and understand English sufficient to provide and receive instructions/directions required.
LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:
- CPR and de-escalation certification may be required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).
- Valid state driver's license (if required by state and facility).
WORK LOCATION:
This position is onsite at the facility and is not a remote position.
SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS:
One or more years' supervisory experience preferred.
