Overview

The Electrical Apprentice IV's work will consist of installations, alterations, additions and/or repairs to electrical systems conductors and associated materials and equipment within the residential, commercial and industrial electrical industry

Responsibilities

  • Repetitive use of arms, hands and fingers.
  • This position is prohibited from working on energized circuits or in/with energized equipment.
  • Must work smoothly with others as a member of a team to complete tasks.
  • Must have knowledge of First Aid, CPR Certification and know Emergency Rescue.
  • Clearly understand and comply with Company/Job Safety Requirements. (OSHA).
  • Must be able to report to assigned job site location on time as directed.
  • Maintain and properly store tools and equipment.
  • Proper use and safely handle tools, equipment and materials.
  • Accurately organize materials and tools in order to maintain clean and neat work area.
  • Must be able to erect and understand pulley systems to lift/move heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of blueprints/shop drawings, including symbol use.
  • Knowledge of use of degrees in bending conduit (i.e. concentric bending).
  • Knowledge of switching procedures.
  • Experience in terminations. (i.e. both aluminum and copper, twisted pair cable, terminating coaxial cable.).
  • Ability to add, subtracts, divide, multiply and use electrical formulas accurately.
  • Perform work at various heights, up to 90' from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, cat walks, roofs or other safe work areas.
  • Work in restrictive/tight areas. (i.e. switchgear rooms, craw spaces, utility tunnels, attics, etc.).
  • Must be capable of digging trenches, either by use of hand tools or equipment.
  • Accurately read labels, job site maps/directions, instruction manuals and written instructions.
  • Employee must be able to direct/train helpers and apprentices in proper work practices.
  • Must have ability to plan and organize task in order to meet task deadlines.
  • Employee must understand and follow NEC and state and local codes.
  • Must have knowledge of: Properly implement grounding practices, Transformer Protection/Connections, Insulating oils & Overcurrent Protection, Parallel Circuits, Fuse Operate, Circuit Breakers, Motors, Inductance and Capacitance Power factors.
  • Have skill to accurately install duct banks and understand required spacing.
  • Employee must have ability to visualize work prior to installation.
  • Must have ability & knowledge to properly give "hand signals" to operators.
  • Knowledge and understanding of OSHA requirements.
  • Required to attend apprenticeship classes and maintain passing grades.
  • Has knowledge, safety knowledge and ability to work with live/energized circuits.
  • Knowledge of concrete, masonry, metal, and stick construction methods.
  • Experience in terminations/splicing. (i.e. High Voltage cable, fiber optic cable).
  • Have skill to accurately direct work of Level 1, 2, 3, workers to meet production.
  • Knowledge and effects of soil on underground cables.

Qualifications

Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in 4th year approved Apprenticeship Program.
  • High school diploma or holder of GED or equivalent.
  • Must meet entry criteria for Apprenticeship Schooling.
  • Ability to work while constantly moving on one's feet.
  • Ability to reach and stretch to position equipment and fixtures while maintaining balance.
  • Ability to lift by one's self work loads of 51 lbs.
  • Ability to work 10 hours per day, night shift, 40 hours per week and overtime as required with little or on short notice.
  • Ability to work in noisy environments.
  • Ability to remain calm in time of heighten emotional situations.
  • Ability and knowledge of voltage regulators, AC motors, photo- electric sensors, temperature and pressure sensors, and other motor control devices.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast paced environment.
  • Well versed in the industry and the Company's competitors.
  • Excellent multitasking skills, with the ability to perform duties outside of scope of work when necessary.

Preferred Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Plumbing and mechanical experience is a plus

Travel Requirements

  • 5-10% of time will be spent traveling to job site(s)/office location.

Physical Activities

  • Climbing stairs.
  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers

Environmental Conditions

  • Quiet environment

Physical Demands

  • Light work that includes adjusting and/or moving objects up to 20 pounds
