The Town of Clayton is seeking applicants for a Firefighter and highly qualified individuals that meet the requirements in addition to successfully passing an assessment may be considered and hired as a Master Firefighter. The Town of Clayton employs more than 340 full-time staff in areas including police, fire, and electric utilities. The Town of Clayton also offers a range of PT positions including positions in Parks & Rec, Library, and Cultural Arts.

FIREFIGHTER JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of a Fire Captain, the Firefighter performs responsible protective service work in fire suppression, emergency medical service and rescue operations. Work is often performed under emergency conditions and frequently involves considerable personal hazard. An employee in this class participates in the operations of fire suppression, fire education and prevention, technical rescue, emergency medical and other incident response operations at the fire station. Employees participate as part of a team in the maintenance of facilities, equipment, and apparatus. Employees also participate in pre-incident planning, maintenance of records, inspections, and training programs.
Work requires that the employee stay abreast of state-of-the-art fire suppression and rescue procedures, techniques, and equipment and requires the employee to incorporate the necessary changes into in-service training. The employee is subject to the hazards associated with incidence response work including working in inside and outside environments, in extreme hot and cold temperatures, loud noise, vibration, moving parts, high heat, chemicals, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, oils, wearing respirators, and working in close quarters. The employee is also subject to the final OSHA standards on blood borne pathogens. Work is performed under regular supervision and is evaluated through observation, conferences, and written reports concerning the quality and effectiveness of work completed.
- Responds to alarms and assists in the suppression of fires, including rescue, entry, ventilating and salvage work; enters structures, searches for and rescues occupants, conducts ventilation and salvage work.
- Responds to emergency medical calls and serves as a first responder to render aid and/or assist other emergency medical services personnel.
- Responds to a variety of technical rescue incidents to include vehicle extrication, machinery extrication, confined space, trench rescue, water rescue, wilderness rescue, tower rescue, and rope rescue.
- Performs cleanup and overhaul work after fires.
- Assists in maintaining fire apparatus and equipment, and cleaning fire station and grounds.
- Participates in continuing training and instruction program by individual study of technical material and attendance at scheduled drills and classes.
- Responds to vehicle accidents and performs extrication duties as needed.
- Assists with pre-incident surveys and planning.
- Assists with conducting residential and commercial fire prevention inspections.
- Performs home safety inspections and fire hydrant tests.
- Conducts fire prevention classes for groups, schools and the public.
- Responds to hazardous materials spills.
- Inventories equipment, uniforms, and emergency stock, etc., orders cleaning supplies.
- May install child safety seats as a public service.
- May assist or have oversite of special project work based on skillsets and abilities.
- May serve as an equipment operator in the absence of the fire equipment operator.
- May drive and operate emergency vehicles.
- Performs related tasks as required.
MASTER FIREFIGHTER JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

This position requires all of the knowledge and responsibilities of a firefighter with the addition of being able to fill in as an apparatus relief driver on all fire apparatus to include engines, aerials, rescues, and support trucks.
