- Lead automation projects from requirements gathering through design, development, testing, deployment, and continuous improvement.
- Automate repetitive tasks including model creation, drawing generation, configuration management, design validation, metadata population, and standard product customization.
- Create reusable frameworks, code libraries, templates, and test methods for automation development.
- Ensure generated CAD models, drawings, and metadata comply with approved Corporate CAD standards.
- Collaborate with the ES&T Standards stream where automation impacts PLM metadata, lifecycle workflows, BOM structures, design release, or document control.
- Partner with IT on deployment, access control, packaging, version control, integration, security, and maintenance of automation tools and embedded-AI
- Troubleshoot issues across SolidWorks automation, DriveWorks rules, model and drawing generation, performance, and user adoption.
- Review existing automation tools and identify opportunities for standardization, consolidation, modernization, and improved maintainability.
- Define track, and report KPIs for automation usage, productivity gains, error reduction, cycle time reduction, and adoption
- Develop technical documentation, user guides, training material, test plans, release notes, and support procedures.
- Mentor engineers on automation methods, SolidWorks API usage, DriveWorks practices, and coding standards.
- Stay current with SolidWorks, DriveWorks, CAD API capabilities, embedded-AI and engineering software trends
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum 7 years of combined experience in engineering design, CAD automation, CAD development, or engineering software automation.
- Strong hands-on expertise in SolidWorks (parts, assemblies, drawings, configurations, design tables, templates, libraries) and the SolidWorks API for automating models, drawings, metadata, and configurations
- Strong programming experience in C# and VBA for CAD and engineering applications, including source control, testing, and release management of automation tools.
- Hands-on experience with DriveWorks covering rules, forms, model and drawing generation, specifications, deployment, and troubleshooting.
- Proven experience leading CAD automation projects from concept through deployment, training, and support.
- Working knowledge of CAD standards (modeling, drawing, templates, metadata, naming, design reuse) and CAD data management in PLM (lifecycle workflows, design release, BOM generation, integration points).
