DHS is seeking dedicated Clinic Licensed Vocational Nurses (CLVNs) and Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) to join our team. Whether you’re working in community clinics or hospitals, this is your opportunity to grow your career while serving diverse communities across LA County.

Essential Job Functions:


What You’ll Be Doing
Clinic LVN Is and LVN Is provide specified direct care to assigned adult or pediatric inpatients in a medical, surgical, obstetrical, psychiatric, admitting or rehabilitation ward, or intensive care, or other specialized inpatient care unit.
 
As a Clinic LVN I & LVN I, you’ll be an essential part of our care team.
 
As a Clinic LVN I, your day-to-day will include:
 

  • Reviewing patients' records to determine the purpose of the visit and whether or not patients' chart, x-rays or lab test results are ready or must be located for the physician.
  • Setting up the area to be used by the physician by obtaining and arranging the required supplies, equipment and instruments and the patients' charts, x-ray, and lab test results.
  • Observing patients to determine condition and need for immediate referral to physician.
  • Preparing the patient for examination and treatment by the physician by transferring, positioning and draping the patient and cleansing areas of the patients' body, and handing instruments to the physician during treatments and procedures.
  • Administering medications and immunizations orally and by intramuscular and subcutaneous injections in accordance with the physicians' orders.

As an LVN I:
 

  • Administering medications by injection, orally, and other pre-determined methods with the exception of research drugs as determined by the Medical Department.
  • Checking prescribed dosages against specified limits.
  • Observing and reporting adverse reactions to medication.
  • Recognizing the need for emergency care; initiating life-saving action in emergencies and alerting the nurse-in-charge or physician.
  • Setting up, operating, and monitoring electronic and/or mechanical equipment, such as croupettes, oxygen therapy, and suctioning equipment.
  • Measuring and recording vital signs; recording bed care procedures, treatments, indications, and nourishment provided and output.


Requirements:

CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:

To be considered for this exciting opportunity, you’ll need to have the following certificate(s) and/or license(s), and will need to provide the hiring team the supporting documentation prior to your start date:

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) Program certification issued by the American Heart Association. ** -AND-
  • A Vocational Nurse license issued by the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technician. -Or-
  • A Vocational Nurse license issued by a U.S. State Government Board of Vocational Nursing. 


Still working on your license? No worries! You can still apply and may even receive a contingent job offer while completing the process. Throughout the process, we’ll confirm that you either have your license or are actively pursuing it.
 
Physical Demands

This role requires moderate physical activity, including standing or walking for extended periods, as well as bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching. You may work on irregular surfaces, occasionally lift objects over 25 pounds, and frequently lift 10-25 pounds. You will be required to undergo a general medical examination for this position.

Assessment Process

You’ll need to score 70% or higher to be placed on the eligible list. You may take the assessment only once every 30 days, and as per Civil Service Rule 7.19, the results are not reviewable.

Eligibility Information

We process applications as we receive them. If you pass the assessment, we will place you on a list for six (6) months. The hiring managers within DHS will use this list to fill vacancies as they become available.
  
Note: We may use an alternative banding method in line with Civil Service Rule 11.01(D).
 
Available Shifts
You may be required to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on operational needs.
