The Role
Responsible for the maintenance, safe operation, and repair of the vessel’s propulsion, power generation, and auxiliary systems. The 2nd Engineer ensures machinery performance, supervises engine room personnel, and supports the Chief Engineer in all aspects of engineering operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and maintain all technical systems and machinery on board, including engines, power generation, hydraulic, pneumatic, and auxiliary systems.
- Stand engine room watch or operate in day work mode, ensuring safe, efficient operations.
- Supervise fuel transfer, ballast, bilge, and cooling systems, maintaining accurate records.
- Implement and monitor planned maintenance systems, ensuring compliance with company procedures and regulatory standards.
- Ensure adherence to all HSE, MARPOL, and classification society requirements.
- Assist in training and mentoring junior engine room crew, promoting a strong safety culture.

- STCW Advanced Fire Fighting
- STCW Basic Training (Personal Survival Techniques & Fire Prevention/ Fire Fighting)
- STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft & Rescue Boats (Other than Fast Rescue Boats)
- STCW Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats
- STCW Proficiency in Security Awareness A-VI/6-1
