Job Description

The Manufacturing Process Documentation Specialist is responsible for evaluating manufacturing processes and developing, maintaining, and improving Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and other process documentation.

This position works closely with Engineering, Production, Quality, Safety, Training, and other departments to observe how work is performed, identify documentation needs, and ensure employees have clear, accurate, and standardized instructions. The position plays an important role in supporting process consistency, employee training, product quality, workplace safety, and continuous improvement throughout the facility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

•  Observe and evaluate manufacturing processes, equipment operations, material flow, and employee work methods.

•  Develop clear and detailed SOPs, work instructions, process guides, and related manufacturing documentation.

•  Review and update existing documentation to reflect current equipment, tooling, materials, quality requirements, and production practices.

•  Partner with engineers, supervisors, operators, quality personnel, safety personnel, and subject-matter experts to confirm process requirements.

•  Translate technical processes into instructions that are easy for employees to understand and follow.

•  Include photographs, diagrams, illustrations, process parameters, safety requirements, quality checkpoints, and troubleshooting guidance when appropriate.

•  Identify differences between documented procedures and actual shop-floor practices.

•  Recommend opportunities to improve process consistency, efficiency, safety, quality, and ease of training.

•  Support engineering trials, process changes, equipment installations, and new product introductions by creating or revising the necessary documentation.

•  Ensure documents are properly reviewed, approved, issued, revised, and controlled in accordance with the company’s document-control requirements.

•  Maintain revision histories and ensure outdated documents are removed from points of use.

•  Assist with the standardization of similar processes across machines, departments, and production areas.

•  Support employee training by helping trainers and supervisors understand new or revised work instructions.

•  Participate in continuous-improvement activities, process reviews, audits, corrective actions, and root-cause investigations.

•  Verify that documentation supports applicable quality, safety, customer, and regulatory requirements.

•  Perform time studies, process mapping, workflow analysis, or other process-evaluation activities as needed.

•  Maintain organized electronic records of SOPs, work instructions, photographs, drawings, approvals, and supporting documentation.

•  Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

•  Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Technology, Technical Writing, or a related field; equivalent manufacturing experience may be considered.

•  Experience working in a manufacturing, engineering, production, quality, or process-documentation environment.

•  Ability to observe technical processes and convert them into clear, step-by-step instructions.

•  Strong written communication, organization, and attention to detail.

•  Ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.

•  Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other document-management tools.

•  Ability to take and edit photographs and incorporate visual aids into technical documents.

•  Ability to manage multiple documentation projects and meet established deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

•  Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field.

•  Experience developing manufacturing SOPs, work instructions, process sheets, or training materials.

•  Experience working within an ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or similar quality-management system.

•  Experience with document-control systems, CAD software, process mapping, or visual work-instruction software.

•  Familiarity with lean manufacturing, 5S, standard work, root-cause analysis, and continuous-improvement principles.
