The Role
Position: Applications Consultant
Bi-Weekly Salary: $3,544.79 - $4,258.45

The Applications Consultant is responsible for the development of bug fixes, minor enhancements and application development support of a legacy mainframe application. The position coordinates and administers the planning, budgeting, organizing, development, control and implementation of assigned projects and acts as a consultant to other technical staff.
The Applications Consultant is responsible for all aspects of highly complex assigned projects and applications, including business analysis undertaken with customers. Work is usually performed without direction but is guided by project goals. The position is expected to exhibit original approaches to solve complex and often specialized system development problems. Novel approaches are studied before acceptance, although normally considerable latitude would be given in solving problems.
The position is responsible for training and supervision of less experienced staff and for effective leadership of project teams and/or a recognized expert in one or more IT disciplines. There would be a clear understanding of customer requirements, with the position designing and implementing programs to meet customer needs. The position deals with customer and ISM management.
Responsibilities
Analyze requirements, design, develop code, test and implement bug fixes and enhancements to Legacy Mainframe applications.
Provide positive leadership to team members and customers.
Follow ITIL principles and procedures with regards to Incident and Change Management
Provide support to users for functional/business testing
Provide after hours on-call as required. We provide 24/7 coverage in a rotational support model.
Adhere to Service Level Agreements while working in a ticket-based environment of Incident and Enhancement requests
Lead the effort to identify and develop improvements to existing programs, systems or processes
Coordinate with other projects to ensure efficient use of resources.
Monitor and improve existing systems and develop new systems.
Assist in major areas of proposal preparation including hardware and software options and strategies, capacity planning, methodology, application schedules and costs.
Develop/cost computing technology solutions for complex and diverse client/business needs such as hardware, software, personnel, communications and facilities.
Estimate programming costs and delivery dates.
Create detailed schedules and ensure team members are meeting the production of project deliverables.
Have responsibility for procurement, budgeting and forecasting all aspects of business case development.
Assist in the training of customers or ISM staff on the use of computer systems or related topics.
Who You Are
Qualifications
University Degree or diploma from a two year program in Computer Science/Data Processing, or an equivalent combination of education, experience and training, plus 7-9 years on one area of business or systems technology.
In-depth knowledge of computer fundamentals including computer environments and operating systems; system architecture; compile and execution functions; data structures, formats and storage media; and program languages.
Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of applications software engineering tools and techniques; and structured analysis, design and programming techniques.
Very good organizational and project management skills with a demonstrated ability to set and achieve more than one concurrent objective reliably.
Very good oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to design, cost and implement solutions, and demonstrate a high degree of originality and ingenuity in devising new approaches.
Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills.
Good interpersonal skills including a mature and professional attitude demonstrated to clients and employees.
Demonstrated capacity for increasing responsibility and accountability.
Skills and abilities acceptable to the client.
Key Skills & Abilities
The following skills and abilities are considered an asset for this position:
Experience with Cobol, Natural/Adabas, JCL, Telon, SQL, ISPF, TSO, CA7, Easytreive, and FTP file transfers.
Several years’ experience in Telephony solutions and Telephony and/or Retail operations.
