Description

As Customer Development Chemist, you will manage laboratory experiments, analyze and document results, draw data-driven conclusions, and ensure all work complies with safety, quality, and laboratory standards.

You will directly report to Science and Technology Manager

Main Responsibilities

  • Follow direction and implement assigned experimentation with some involvement from supervisor, discuss work with supervisor daily.

  • Logically organize a series of tasks to complete assigned experiment.

  • Record experimental output in a condensed, tabulated or graphic form to communicate results and trends.

  • Draw conclusions from work and demonstrate attention to detail. Detect anomalies in experimental parameters or results.

  • With guidance from supervisor, provides technical support to other teams.

  • Keep lab supplied, keep basic equipment functioning and certifiably calibrated.

  • Seek opportunities to improve formulation efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability.

  • Collaborate with production, quality, and marketing teams to ensure product consistency and understanding of customer expectations

  • Understand and practice EHS processes relevant to the job in the working environment.

  • Manage conclusions from lab experiments following discussion with supervisors.

  • Ensure all experimental work is recorded in appropriate lab notebooks, databases, project reports.

  • Work safely, following all lab procedures and contribute to the maintenance of high safety standards.

  • Provide technical support (guided by supervisor) to other departments especially sales and production.

  • Contribute ideas for lab work involving new product development, existing product improvement, formula cost reduction, processes and procedural improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline.

  • 2+ years of experience in a technical role at a relevant company within the chemical or coatings industry.

  • Basic knowledge of paint making, testing techniques and colour theory.

  • Comprehend paint manufacturing and production processes.

  • Understanding of main formulating rules and principles.

  • Is familiar with major raw material suppliers and their technologies.

  • Aware of PPG and competitive product ranges and customer application practices.

  • Working knowledge of all laboratory and EHS procedures.
