As part of their continued growth strategy, they are seeking an exceptional Associate Director – Mechanical Engineering to help lead and expand their Dublin operation.
This is not a traditional management role. The successful candidate will be a highly technical engineering leader who has progressed through a mechanical engineering career pathway and established themselves as a recognised authority within the data center sector. You will play a pivotal role in developing the Dublin office, strengthening client relationships with some of the world's largest hyperscale operators, and supporting the growth of the wider international business.
The Opportunity
This position offers the chance to become a key figure within an ambitious and rapidly expanding business, working on some of the most complex and high-profile data center developments in Europe.
You will be expected to provide both technical leadership and strategic direction, ensuring engineering excellence across major hyperscale and mission-critical projects while helping to build and develop the Dublin team.
The successful individual will be equally comfortable discussing detailed cooling strategies, critical mechanical infrastructure, and resilience requirements with senior engineers as they are presenting solutions directly to clients.
Key Responsibilities

- Act as the senior mechanical engineering authority within the Dublin office.
- Lead the development and growth of the local team while supporting wider international business objectives.

- Oversee the delivery of complex mechanical building services designs, ensuring technical excellence throughout the project lifecycle.
- Guide engineering teams on critical infrastructure systems, cooling strategies, HVAC design, chilled water systems, heat rejection, resilience, and sustainability initiatives.
- Mentor and support Principal Engineers, Senior Engineers, and developing technical professionals.
- Review and challenge engineering solutions, ensuring the highest standards of quality and innovation.
- Support business development activities, project pursuits, and client engagement initiatives.
- Work closely with regional and global leadership teams to strengthen the company's market presence in Ireland and Europe.
Candidate Requirements
- Extensive Data Center and Mission Critical project experience is essential.
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status preferred.
- Significant experience delivering complex mechanical building services solutions within hyperscale, colocation, or mission-critical environments.
- Strong expertise in:
- Critical cooling systems
- HVAC design
- Chilled water systems
- Heat rejection technologies
- Mechanical resilience strategies
- Energy efficiency and sustainability solutions
- Mission-critical mechanical infrastructure
Leadership & Technical Capability
The successful candidate must demonstrate:
- A strong technical engineering background, having progressed from hands-on engineering and design roles into leadership.
- The ability to serve as the technical authority within the business.
- Experience mentoring and supporting Principal Engineers and senior technical professionals.
- Sufficient technical depth and credibility to challenge, guide, and influence highly experienced engineering teams.
- A genuine passion for engineering excellence rather than purely project or people management.
- Proven experience engaging directly with major hyperscale clients.
- Comfortable leading technical discussions and design reviews with organisations such as:

- Global technology organisations
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
