The University of Miami/UHealth's Division of Development and Alumni Relations has an exciting opportunity for a full time Philanthropy Officer to work in Miami, FL.

General Overview:

The Philanthropy Officer is responsible for planning, developing, and managing the fundraising strategies and initiatives to support the mission and goals of Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.  This role involves building and maintaining relationships with donors, identifying potential funding opportunities, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to achieve fundraising metrics. 

Essential Responsibilities:

Among the administrative and operational responsibilities, the Philanthropy Officer will:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan to meet annual revenue targets.
  • Establish philanthropic partnerships with physicians and scientists in assigned site disease areas through physician strategy visits (minimum 10 per month). 
  • Identify prospective donors and funding sources, in conjunction with faculty and staff, and qualify prospects (150 annually) to establish and build a robust portfolio (minimum 125).
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with current and prospective donors.
  • Develop cultivation and solicitation plans that include donor meetings, lab tours, and engagement opportunities to secure donations.
  • Ensure regular personalized communication and stewardship with donors, acknowledging their contributions and providing regular updates on the impact of their gifts. 
  • Collaborate with development communications team to develop fundraising materials for assigned site disease area.
  • Maintain communications with colleagues in medical departments, other schools and central development to ensure effective collaborations and synergy in achieving the university’s key fundraising goals and objectives.
  • Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of the Department’s funding priorities, both general and specific to various programs and departments.
  • Document all interactions, contacts, communications, visits, and opportunities in i-BIS.

Measurements of Success for Philanthropy Officer:

  • Make an appropriate amount of substantive qualification, cultivation and solicitation actions toward closing gifts. Numbers established with supervisor. 
  • Reach individual yearly goals for “number and amounts funded’.  Reach additional goals as acting as a collaborator. Number established with supervisor. 
  • Reach individual goals for physician strategy visits.
  • Reach individual goals for referrals to the Office of Estate and Planned Giving. Number established with supervisor. 
  • Reach individual goals for capital solicitations and dollars closed. Numbers established with supervisor. 
  • Reach individual goal for scholarship and research scholar dollars closed. Numbers established with supervisor. 
  • Manage an appropriate number of active prospects and active opportunities. Number and amounts to be established with supervisor.

Core Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Five years of demonstrated successful experience in fundraising and fundraising management, preferably in higher education or health care. 
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills are necessary along with the ability to be highly organized, creative, energetic, and assertive and exhibit the independent judgment and personal integrity necessary to carry out a senior management role in fundraising. 
  • A teamwork-oriented approach to colleagues and proven ability to manage people in a positive and constructive environment are essential.

Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
