Note: Work hours for this position will be Tuesday through Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.  May need to work occasional shifts outside of the regular shift to meet the needs of the department. Successful candidate must be able to follow verbal communications and be able to read and comprehend written directions. Also, must be able to interpret written directives, policies, and memos. An essential function of this position requires exertion of up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects (i.e. lifting trash, pushing cleaning equipment, moving furniture, etc.). It also requires constant or frequent climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling and reaching. You must be able to perform this level of physical exertion and essential functions in order to be considered for this position.

*Shift Differentials will be paid to employees in eligible classes as published in the State's annual pay plan.
  • Regular rate applies when work hours fall between 6:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. (no shift differential). 
  • Second shift differential rate (7.5%) applies when half or more of the scheduled work hours fall between 4:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. 
  • Third shift differential rate (14%) applies when half or more of the scheduled work hours fall between 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. 
  • Weekend differential rate (20%) applies when more than half of the scheduled shift hours fall on a weekend shift. Weekend shifts start at 4:00 pm Friday through 6:00 am Monday.

This position oversees staff and assigns work determining best practices, work procedures and processes that will accomplish all housekeeping tasks in a timely and thorough manner. Primary duties and responsibilities include: 

Supervision & Leadership

  • Supervise and provide oversight of custodial team members
  • Conduct annual and mid-year performance evaluations
  • Manage and approve employee leave requests
  • Resolve departmental conflicts and recommend corrective actions in accordance with state policies and procedures
  • Schedule and lead weekly safety meetings and maintain attendance logs

Custodial Operations

  • Perform custodial work alongside staff as needed
  • Vacuum and extract carpets; sweep, mop, and scrub floors; strip and wax tile
  • Clean desks, windows, whiteboards, and other surfaces
  • Collect and remove trash and recycling from classrooms, offices, and public areas
  • Set up and take down tables, chairs, tents, and other equipment for events, meetings, and campus functions

Supply Management

  • Monitor custodial supply levels and maintain adequate stock
  • Coordinate routine ordering of approved custodial supplies via online ordering system
  • Track overall supply usage and identify irregular patterns
  • Collaborate with the Director of Events and Operations regarding supply needs
  • Receive and organize deliveries to ensure materials are available for all shifts

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure proper training and handling of custodial supplies
  • Verify staff compliance with safety protocols and procedures

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience Only:

Two (2) years of custodial experience as the primary function of your job. Knowledge and ability to use a personal computer is required. Explain your experience on your application. Do not use "see resume" statements on your application. The official State of Colorado application must be completed in detail to be considered. Part time hours will be prorated.


Substitutions: None

Highly Desirable:  Excellent customer service skills. A minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Knowledge/experience in proper methods to strip and re-wax hard surface flooring. Knowledge of custodian chemicals and their use. Proper sanitation procedures for restrooms. Experience in hard floor and carpet maintenance. Experience operating floor scrubbers, carpet extractors, and floor buffers. Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks. Strong time management and organizational skills. Ability to work as a member of a team as well as an individual contributor; self motivated. Experience utilizing MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

Conditions of Employment: Must possess and maintain a valid State of Colorado driver's license to independently drive company vehicles and equipment around the campus, pick up parts, etc. Must submit to and successfully complete a pre-employment background check to include a motor vehicle report (MVR) as a condition of hire. Felony convictions or conviction of crimes of moral turpitude or convictions of misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify you from consideration for this position. Should your background check reveal any charges and convictions, it is your responsibility to provide CCA Office of Human Resources with an official disposition of the charges. An essential function of this position requires the individual to exert up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. It also requires constant or frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing, and depth perception. You must be able to perform this level of physical exertion and essential functions in order to be considered for this position.
