At Hitachi Energy, we are looking for a Mechanical Design Team Leader to join our Transformers Business in Vaasa, Finland. In this role, you will support and coordinate a small team of skilled design engineers while contributing your own expertise to challenging customer projects. This is not a traditional people management role but an opportunity to coordinate and support a small team of engineers, foster collaboration, and drive successful project delivery.

In this role, you will lead a team of mechanical design engineers working with some of the industry's most advanced transformer and reactor solutions. You will combine hands-on engineering expertise with people leadership, guiding your team through demanding customer projects while ensuring high-quality, innovative, and sustainable designs.

As part of our global engineering organization, you will collaborate closely with colleagues across functions and regions, playing a key role in delivering world-class transformer solutions that support the ongoing energy transition.

How you’ll make an impact

  • Lead, support, and coordinate a team of mechanical design engineers
  • Ensure efficient project execution and follow project progress across the team
  • Drive collaboration between engineering, procurement, production, and quality functions
  • Foster a positive, engaging, and high-performing team environment
  • Build strong relationships with external partners and subcontractors
  • Contribute to technical problem-solving and decision-making in customer projects
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and the development of team competencies
  • Promote safe, sustainable, and high-quality engineering practices

Your background

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in electrical or mechanical engineering
  • Previous experience in mechanical engineering, preferably within industrial product design or manufacturing
  • Experience in team leadership, coaching, or coordinating engineering activities is considered an advantage
  • Knowledge of 3D CAD tools and mechanical design processes
  • Experience with project planning tools such as MS Project or MS Planner is beneficial
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and engineering documentation is considered a plus
  • Strong communication skills in Finnish and English, both written and spoken

Please note that interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis as applications are received, and the position will be filled and closed once a suitable candidate is identified. The recruitment process may, however, be slightly slower during the summer holiday period.

For certain roles—particularly those involving access to sensitive information, financial responsibilities, client data, regulated environments, or security-sensitive functions—additional or more comprehensive background or security screenings may be required.
