Director, Investment Accounting
Our client, a growing insurance organization with offices in Texas and Vermont, is seeking an experienced Director of Investment Accounting to lead the investment accounting function and oversee accurate and timely financial reporting for a diverse investment portfolio.
This leadership role will oversee GAAP and statutory investment accounting and reporting across multiple asset classes. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical investment accounting expertise, insurance or regulated financial services experience, and proven leadership skills. This individual will manage a team of investment accounting professionals while partnering closely with Financial Reporting, Tax, Treasury, Investment Operations, and other key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Investment Accounting function, including oversight of GAAP and statutory accounting and reporting across all investment asset classes.
- Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and annual close and reporting for investment assets, liabilities, income, and expenses.
- Review accounting activity and financial results to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable accounting standards.
- Manage and develop a team of investment accounting professionals, including goal setting, performance oversight, and work review.
- Partner cross-functionally with Financial Reporting, Tax, Treasury, Investment Operations, and other business areas.
- Maintain relationships with external auditors, vendors, and other business partners.
- Drive continuous process improvement, automation, technology implementation, and stronger internal controls.
- Develop key performance indicators, analytical reports, and insights to support investment-related business strategies.
- Monitor evolving accounting, financial reporting, and regulatory requirements impacting investment accounting.
- Leverage emerging technologies, including automation and AI-enabled tools, to improve reporting efficiency, scalability, and control effectiveness.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
- Master’s degree in Accounting preferred
- CPA or equivalent professional certification preferred
- 7–10 years of relevant experience in investment accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, and process improvement.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and/or statutory accounting and reporting.
- Investment accounting experience within the insurance industry or another regulated financial services organization.
- Experience accounting for diverse investment portfolios and asset classes, including private credit.
- Experience implementing process improvements, automation, and emerging technologies.
- Experience leading and developing accounting professionals.
- Strong ability to identify, analyze, and resolve complex financial and accounting issues.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-management skills.
Compensation
- $125,000–$175,000 base salary, plus comprehensive benefits and potential incentive compensation.
