Job Summary:The Lead Recycler will efficiently collect and sort recyclable materials, operate baling equipment, and maintain sanitation standards in the recycling area. Responsibilities also include the safe operation of vehicles and rental equipment, collaborating with the Sustainability department to enhance waste management practices, and assisting with various programs while ensuring a safe work environment. A positive and collaborative attitude is essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities
- Comply with and help administer Xanterra’s environmental management system policies and procedures at assigned location.
- Provide training to and supervision of less experienced Location Recycling Technician(s).
- Provide direct feedback to department managers on recycling processes and performance using existing company guidance and a collaborative, educational approach.
- Initiate or attend departmental meetings and related communications to actively engage location staff with recycling tips and basic support of sustainability program implementation.
- Work with Gardiner Park-wide Recycling Technician to ensure processing of recyclables meets the standards of Four Corners Recycling and to notify vendor of material pick-up scheduling needs.
- Assure efficient collection of all recyclable materials for the assigned location.
- Sort recyclable materials from unrecyclable materials.
- Process all location cardboard as applicable using baling or compacting equipment.
- Safe operation of cardboard balers and other equipment.
- Maintain the location recycling area(s) to sanitation and resource management standards.
- Responsible care of location recycling vehicle including safe operation, compliance with all traffic and safety laws, assurance of company vehicle cleanliness, and regular maintenance and safety checks, and reporting accidents and near misses.
- Safe operation of all rental equipment in use, including not overriding any equipment safety features.
- Work with Sustainability Department to assess waste management opportunities, improve effectiveness of diversion program, and implement program changes as needed.
- Work safely to avoid injuries and accidents, including the proper Personal Protective Equipment (mainly gloves and footwear).
- Maintain a diligent, positive attitude amid busy work and visitor conditions and support mentoring of Location Recycling Technician(s).
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Be at least 21 years of age by the appointment start date and have or have the ability to obtain DOT Driving Certificate (coordinated by the employer).
- Have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
- Have the ability, or be willing to learn how to operate, a 1-ton vehicle, lift gates, and cardboard compacters.
- Be able to pass driver road test upon arrival to location.
- Willingness to work inconsistent hours, including holidays, evenings, and weekends.
- Demonstrated ability to work with minimum supervision to complete assigned tasks in a safe, timely and professional manner, while also providing direction to 1-2 other recyclers.
- Willingness to champion Yellowstone’s commitment to sustainability by leading by example, supporting location recycling efforts, and training others to recycle as needed.
- Possesses a “can-do” attitude.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Past experience supervising or managing a team of one or more.
- Prior knowledge of, or interest in learning, Yellowstone’s waste management and other park-wide environmental programs, to serve as a resource for fellow employees and park visitors.
- Prior knowledge of recyclable materials, processing methods, and collection systems is favored.
- Prior experience driving a box truck and operating lift gates.
Physical Requirements:
- Stand and bend throughout an 8-hour shift.
- Complete full 8+ hour recycling shifts, sometimes twice a week.
- Frequently walk and scale stairs, including on uneven or slippery surfaces, while carrying recyclables.
- Infrequently lift and carry 50+ pounds, and push or pull wheeled bins 100+ pounds.
- Handle used recyclables, which may contain liquid or food.
- Operate box trucks, lift gates, and cardboard compacters.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Work at elevations of more than 6,000 feet.
- Work in inclement weather with varying temperatures throughout the day.
Must be able to:
