Job Description

As a Staff / Principal Automation Integration Engineer, you will serve as a senior technical leader responsible for driving factory-wide automation transformation, labor productivity improvements, and advanced manufacturing digitalization across semiconductor manufacturing operations. This role leads the design, integration, deployment, optimization, and production release of complex automation solutions spanning robotics, AMHS, AGV/AMR, ASRS, machine integration, MES connectivity, AI-enabled automation, and smart manufacturing systems.

You will partner closely with AT Auto,Manufacturing, Process, Equipment, Operations Improvements, Smart Systems, IT, Facilities, Global Central Teams, and external automation suppliers to identify opportunities, define technical solutions, build business cases, and execute scalable automation initiatives that improve safety, quality, cost, cycle time, and labor efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Automation Strategy & Technical Leadership

  • Define and drive site-level automation integration strategies aligned with manufacturing capacity expansion, labor efficiency, quality, safety, and factory modernization objectives.
  • Serve as a senior technical authority for automation architecture, solution design, system integration, and production readiness.
  • Establish automation standards, design rules, governance practices, and scalable deployment models across manufacturing areas.
  • Mentor engineers and influence cross-functional teams through technical guidance, structured problem solving, and decision-making leadership.

Opportunity Identification & Business Case Development

  • Collaborate with Site Manufacturing and Engineering teams to identify operational gaps, labor-intensive workflows, bottlenecks, safety risks, and automation opportunities.
  • Analyze process flows, product movement, equipment layouts, operator assignments, dispatching logic, and material handling methods to uncover labor inefficiencies.
  • Lead brainstorming and ideation sessions with cross-functional teams to generate high-impact automation improvement concepts.
  • Evaluate automation proposals based on ROI, labor productivity, cycle time, quality, safety, ergonomics, maintainability, and scalability.
  • Prepare and present compelling business cases and technical recommendations to management for approval.

System Architecture, Design & Integration

  • Architect end-to-end automation solutions integrating AMHS, AGV/AMR, ASRS, robotics, machine vision, sensors, equipment interfaces, and factory applications.
  • Ensure automation systems are compatible with MES, dispatching, scheduling, material tracking, reporting, and equipment control systems.
  • Translate manufacturing requirements into robust automation concepts, functional specifications, design rules, test plans, and production release criteria.
  • Provide automation design feedback to support new product introductions, capacity expansion, and future factory readiness.

Project & Program Execution

  • Lead complex automation projects from idea generation, feasibility evaluation, design, procurement, installation, commissioning, qualification, production release, and sustainment.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, resources, dependencies, risks, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Coordinate engineering activities related to development, procurement, installation, calibration, validation, and release of automation equipment, instruments, and control devices.
  • Define test conditions and oversee operational, functional, safety, and performance validation phases.
  • Analyze and interpret test data, summarize validation results, and prepare technical reports for engineering and management review.

Vendor, Supplier & Technology Management

  • Benchmark industry-leading automation technologies and assess applicability to semiconductor manufacturing environments.
  • Lead supplier selection using structured decision-making tools, technical evaluations, proof-of-concept results, and commercial considerations.
  • Serve as the primary interface with automation vendors throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Drive vendor performance, design quality, installation readiness, issue resolution, documentation completeness, and successful deployment outcomes.

Production Ramp, Sustainment & Continuous Improvement

  • Partner with process, equipment, production, and shift teams to ensure automation objectives are achieved during ramp-up and steady-state operation.
  • Conduct regular cross-functional reviews to monitor project readiness, production release status, risk closure, KPI performance, and adoption progress.
  • Establish and monitor automation KPIs such as labor hours saved, cycle time improvement, uptime, utilization, safety improvement, quality impact, and ROI achievement.
  • Drive continuous improvement using data analytics, structured problem solving, and lessons learned from production operations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Automation, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 10+ years of semiconductor manufacturing, semiconductor engineering, or semiconductor equipment/process integration experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on automation-related experience, including factory automation, equipment automation, automation integration, robotics, AMHS, AGV/AMR,Smart manufacturing systems.
  • Proven experience leading medium-to-large scale automation projects from concept through production release.
  • Strong understanding of semiconductor Assembly, Test, advanced packaging, HBM, wafer manufacturing, or related advanced manufacturing operations.
  • Experience working with cross-functional stakeholders across Manufacturing, Process, Equipment, IT, Facilities, Operations Integration, and external vendors.
  • Strong structured problem-solving capability and ability to make data-driven technical decisions.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and executive-level presentation skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-complexity manufacturing environment.

Automation Systems

AMHS, AGV, ASRS, robotics, PLCs, motion control.

Backend Applications

CMF MES, MAM, CSM, SAP, RMS, ET, etc.

Productivity & Collaboration Tools

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Jira, Confluence, SharePoint, JMP, etc.
