Description

The Allegro team is united by a clear purpose—advancing technologies that make the world safer, more efficient, and more sustainable. With over 30 years of experience in semiconductor innovation, we bring that purpose to life across every part of the business—from breakthrough product development and customer success to how we show up for each other and the communities we serve.

The Opportunity

At Allegro MicroSystems, we deliver "Innovation with Purpose" by ensuring our products meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and reliability. As the Lead Failure Analysis (FA) Technician, you will be a vital technical leader within our quality and reliability organization. You will oversee daily operations in our state-of-the-art FA laboratory, guiding a team of technicians and utilizing sophisticated diagnostic equipment to isolate and understand complex failure modes. This role offers a high degree of technical ownership, giving you the platform to drive continuous process improvements, support critical qualifications, and ensure world-class product reliability.

What You Will Do

  • Workflow & Team Leadership: Lead fellow FA Technicians, managing laboratory workflow and assigning tasks based on project priorities, deadlines, and urgent activities. You will act as a mentor, training junior technicians on advanced FA techniques, machinery, and lab safety practices.
  • Advanced Diagnostics & Testing: Perform comprehensive failure analysis on materials and products from Reliability Qualifications. Your technical tasks will include:
    • Non-Destructive Analysis: 2D/3D X-ray (CT) and Scanning Acoustic Microscopy (SAM).
    • Microscopic & Microstructural Evaluation: High/low power optical microscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) for elemental analysis.
    • Sample Preparation: Physical micro-sectioning, and laser, chemical, or mechanical decapsulation.
    • Analytical Chemistry: FTIR for chemical compound identification.
  • Data Evaluation & Reporting: Use sophisticated software and data systems to collect, evaluate, and document quality assurance and control results. You will review device histories, compile technical findings, and generate comprehensive FA reports featuring digital imaging (photomicrography) and process improvement recommendations.
  • Technical Governance & Quality Control: Perform critical reviews of FA results prior to customer release. You will escalate to deeper-level analysis when preliminary results are inconclusive and work alongside engineers to set up calibration tasks, carry out rework, and run controlled experiments.
  • Lab Operations & Compliance: Evaluate and develop new procedures, specifications, and manuals for the FA lab. You will manage laboratory inventories (chemicals, apparatus, supplies), maintain strict records for traceability, and ensure alignment with EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) and 5S housekeeping standards.

What You Will Bring

  • Educational Foundation: An Associate’s degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, Materials Science, Chemistry, or an equivalent technical certification.
  • Failure Analysis Expertise: Significant hands-on experience in a semiconductor failure analysis or quality control laboratory, with a proven track record of operating advanced diagnostic tools (SEM, EDX, SAM, decapsulation systems).
  • Technical Leadership: Demonstrated ability to distribute workflow, coordinate task assignments, and mentor other technicians in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Rigor: Excellent troubleshooting skills, with the ability to interpret complex data, review technical reports for accuracy, and assist engineers in establishing robust QA/QC procedures.
  • Operational Discipline: Strong attention to detail regarding document control, record maintenance, chemical handling safety, and EHS compliance.
