Job Summary

Position is responsible for providing therapeutic recreation services to rehabilitation patients.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Administration; or related field.

Licenses/Certifications: Certification with the National Council on Therapeutic Recreation Certification.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Delivers appropriate therapy at a competent level and according to the needs of age of the patient/patient population served.

  • Performs initial evaluation of patients to determine appropriate plan, plans recreational activities; necessary arrangements for space, materials and transportation, and notifying members of the multi-disciplinary team; leads/co-leads leisure groups and activities.

  • Maintains required departmental records including written evaluation, weekly progress notes and participation in activities; maintains listing of community resources; assesses daily charges for assigned patients.

  • Presents relevant special topics in professional literature at clinic meetings, grand rounds, conferences, university settings and meetings as delegated or requested by the faculty.

  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.

  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
