Description

[What the role is]

We are looking for a self-driven and committed individual to augment our research and surveillance programmes at the Environmental Health Institute (EHI). If you enjoy working in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment where your work outcomes are translated into evidence-based public health programmes and policies, we invite you to join us.

[What you will be working on]

The successful candidate will work in the EHI and be part of a multi-disciplinary team that will focus on urban vector species in Singapore. You will have the chance to work with various inter-disciplinary teams. Key ongoing projects involve the i) study of Aedes albopictus and its control in a mosquito release programme; and ii) the use of pyriproxyfen in the boosted Sterile Insect Technique-Incompatible Insect Technique (SIT-IIT) approach. As part of a research programme, the role involves a significant amount of routine and systematic fieldwork and laboratory tasks, which form the foundation of our evidence-based research outcomes. You will be involved in a myriad of entomological activities including, but not limited to vector surveillance and lab studies, mosquito identification, sample processing, data entry and analyses, preparation, and maintenance of logistics.

[What we are looking for]

  • Bachelor’s Degree or above in Life Sciences or related disciplines
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience in entomology or related life science areas would be an advantage
  • Able to work independently and in a team
  • Able to systematically perform routine workflow with an eye for detail
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good knowledge in Microsoft Office
  • Able to analyse and interpret data using relevant analytical tools or software
  • Physically fit and possess the physical endurance for the challenges of field work
  • Proficient in scientific writing, reporting, and communications
  • Valid Class 3 driver's licence with willingness to travel to field sites preferred (vehicle provided if available)
