Skilled Maintenance Technician l or ll - Plumbing
The City of Colorado Springs is ready to welcome a Skilled Maintenance Technician l or II to the Plumbing Mechanical team! As a Skilled Maintenance Technician l or II for Plumbing, you will use your expertise in plumbing to perform construction, maintenance, and repair duties across city parks and buildings while ensuring work quality, safety, and compliance with regulations. This is an opportunity to make a lasting impact by supporting the design, upkeep, and functionality of vital city infrastructure.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 6:30am-3:00pm. This position requires you to be available for on-call and/or overtime to assist with emergencies/disaster situations
Depending on the qualifications of the candidate selected, this position will be filled at either the Skilled Maintenance Technician I or Skilled Maintenance Technician II level.
Competitive hourly pay based on experience:
• Skilled Maintenance Technician I: $24.02–$28.84/hour
• Skilled Maintenance Technician II: $28.54–$34.27/hour
This position is subject to budget required furloughs to be implemented in the 2026 calendar year.

As a maintenance Technician I, you will:
- Assist Skilled Maintenance Technician II and Senior level technicians in plumbing repairs pertaining to parks and park facilities such as replacement and repair of backflow assemblies, irrigation main line repairs, restroom facility repairs, sewer line back up, rooter services, general construction and maintenance support
- Use your apprentice level experience in plumbing to solder, glue and repair pipe, properly install fittings and mechanical devices
- Complete tasks efficiently using hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment
- Remain on a rotational on call as needed for emergency and disaster situations
- Assist other technicians with spray park, swimming pool mechanical repairs and maintenance
- Possess or obtain American Society of Sanitary Engineering (ASSE) certified backflow tester certification within 1 rear of hire
- Complete other duties as assigned
As a maintenance Technician II, you will:
- Perform skilled maintenance and technical duties, to repair, test and replace backflow assembly devices, irrigation mainlines, plumbing devices and fixtures.
- Possess American Society of Sanitary Engineering (ASSE) backflow inspection and tester license, and perform yearly backflow assembly testing and log data
- Use in depth journey level plumbing expertise to troubleshoot, design and implement maintenance and repair solutions
- Read and interpret plans and drawings, assess projects, design and layout work
- Estimate and requisition time, materials and equipment needed for projects
- Conduct field inspections to ensure quality safety and compliance with city policies
- Provide technical support to supervisors, lead team members and respond to public inquiries courteously
- Ensure adherence to workplace safety practices
- Provide guidance, mentorship and training to develop other team members
- Complete other duties as assigned
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
Skills or Knowledge of:
- A plumbing technical maintenance craft discipline with use of analytical judgment and decision making
- Plumbing troubleshooting maintenance principles, methods, and best practices
- Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes and regulations
- Basic computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office
- Occupational hazards and standard safety practices
- Capability of working in confined spaces to include meter pits and equipment vaults
- Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
- Work independently and/or in a team environment
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Stay current on new trends, innovations and technology specific to plumbing
Skilled Maintenance Technician I:
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED).
- One year of full-time, professional experience in a related field.
- Possess upon hire and maintain a valid non probationary drivers license, not subject to restrictions related to alcohol and or drug violations or pending charges
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED).
- Three years of full-time, professional experience in a related field.
