The Technical Ceramics business of Morgan Advanced Materials engineers high performance functional and structural ceramic materials, components and sub-assemblies to address customer-specific technical challenges.

Responsibilities

About the Role

The Quality Specialist III / CMM Programmer is an advanced inspection and metrology role responsible for validating product conformance and programming, setting up and operating coordinate measuring machines (CMM) and other computer-driven inspection equipment. This position works with little to no supervision, performs first-article and production inspections, interprets complex drawings and GD&T requirements, troubleshoots inspection issues and provides technical guidance to other employees on inspection and measurement methods.

What You'll Do

  • Program, set up and run manual and computer-controlled CMM inspection systems, including PC-DMIS+, and multi-sensor OGP measuring systems.
  • Perform advanced mechanical inspection using approved sampling plans or 100% inspection techniques in accordance with customer and internal quality requirements.
  • Perform and verify first-article and production inspections and evaluate product conformance using CMM reports and manual measurements.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and specifications in accordance with ASME Y14.5, including advanced GD&T, tolerances and features.
  • Review customer quality requirements, specifications, purchase-order requirements and applicable inspection documentation.
  • Set up and operate additional precision inspection equipment such as comparators, micrometers, profilometers, laser micrometers, indicators and microscopes as applicable.
  • Troubleshoot inspection, measurement and product-conformance issues and accurately document inspection results.
  • Determine appropriate sampling plans using statistical methods.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to machine operators and Quality personnel on measuring techniques, inspection methods and equipment use.
  • Identify opportunities to improve inspection efficiency, measurement effectiveness, cost and waste.

Qualifications

What We're Looking For

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One to two years of mechanical inspection experience using standard and complex inspection practices and measuring instruments.
  • Advanced CMM measurement, setup and programming capability; PC-DMIS+ and multi-sensor OGP programming experience is required for this position.
  • Advanced print reading and inspection methodology with a strong understanding of ASME Y14.5 and GD&T.
  • Ability to evaluate product conformance using inspection reports, manual measurements and precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to statistically determine sampling plans and accurately document inspection results.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently while managing changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Precision manufacturing inspection experience is preferred; ceramics experience is a plus.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week; overtime and holidays as business needs require

Employment Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt / Hourly

Pay Range: $30.00-$39.00 per hour, depending on experience
