What You Will Do

• Design, deploy, and maintain RHEL-based systems in production and development environments.
• Implement OS hardening standards and security controls across Linux systems.
• Develop and maintain automated configuration workflows using Ansible or other IaC/CM tools.
• Write and maintain scripts to support system configuration, monitoring, and operational tasks.
• Apply systems engineering principles to requirements analysis, design documentation, verification, and lifecycle support.
• Troubleshoot complex issues across Linux/Windows hosts, networks, infrastructure services, and applications.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure system reliability, security, and scalability.
• Participate in technical reviews, architecture discussions, and design planning.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field and 5 years of experience

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with RHEL administration.

  • Demonstrated background in OS hardening, security baselines, and compliance frameworks (e.g., STIGs, CIS Benchmarks).

  • The ability to obtain and maintain an Interim Secret U.S security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance


Qualifications We Prefer

  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or similar.

  • Experience with Ansible or equivalent IaC/configuration management tools (e.g., Puppet, Chef, SaltStack).

  • Solid understanding of Linux and Windows networking fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, routing, firewalls, services).

  • Ability to approach problems with systems engineering thinking, including structured analysis and clear documentation.

  • Familiarity with virtualization or containerization technologies (KVM, VMware, Docker, Podman) is a plus.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced engineering environment.

  • Experience in secure enterprise or government environments.

  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.

  • Understanding of reliability, maintainability, or other systems engineering specialty areas.

  • Relevant certifications (RHCSA/RHCE, Security+, Network+, etc.).

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
