About this opportunity:
As software systems become increasingly complex, traditional DevOps models can create cognitive overload and friction for developers. Platform Engineering addresses this challenge by providing Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs) with self-service capabilities, standardized workflows, automated governance, and reliable infrastructure.
This thesis project will explore how a modern Platform Engineering architecture can improve an enterprise software delivery ecosystem. The work will include evaluating existing CI/CD and DevSecOps practices, prototyping platform capabilities, and assessing their impact on developer experience and delivery performance.
A distinctive part of the project is the developer-advocacy component. You will create short, engaging videos and community updates to explain platform features, share best practices, encourage adoption, and gather feedback from the engineering community.
What you will do:
- Evaluate existing CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOps workflows, and infrastructure-provisioning practices.
- Research and prototype self-service platform capabilities, such as developer portals, automated guardrails, and environment provisioning.
- Design and assess a Platform Engineering architecture suited to an enterprise software environment.
- Measure the impact of platform adoption on developer velocity, deployment friction, developer experience, and system reliability.
- Produce short-form videos of approximately 30–60 seconds covering platform features, practical tips, and architectural updates.
- Share selected content through the internal Viva Engage community to support adoption, engage developers, and collect feedback.
- Summarize findings and provide recommendations for future platform development and developer enablement.
The skills you bring:
- You are pursuing a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Cloud Computing, or a related field.
- You have a solid foundation in DevOps, CI/CD, containerization, and cloud technologies.
- You have experience with or a strong interest in Docker, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, and Internal Developer Platforms.
- You are interested in developer experience, technical storytelling, developer relations, or content creation.
- You have strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
- You are analytical, curious, and able to work independently in a collaborative engineering environment.
- Experience with video scripting, editing, or community engagement is an advantage.
