KP846 - Full-Time Housekeeper - Manhattan, NYC

Overview

A private family in Manhattan is seeking an experienced, discreet, and highly experienced professional with great work ethic. The housekeeper will work under the supervision of the property manager/executive housekeeper to care for the property and family in a sizeable Manhattan apartment. The preferred schedule will be Monday through Friday, from 12pm-8pm. Candidates must be flexible to stay extra hours for formal dinners on occasion, as well as Saturdays for a few hours on rare occasions.

The principals are also willing to consider a schedule consisting of Tuesday-Friday from 12-8pm and Saturday from 10am-6pm.

 

Hours are reduced when the principals are out of town.

Responsibilities

 

• Experience keeping a residence to a high standard, with particular care for fine art and delicate surfaces.
• Flexibility to stay extra hours at night and assist with clean up and supporting chef and servers during formal dinners and entertaining
• Assist with service and clean up during meals and entertaining
• Grocery shop and light cooking in an unexpected pinch
• Experience laundering luxury clothing and understanding what goes to dry cleaner, what goes in machine, and what gets hand washed
• Ability to follow instructions and the family/estate protocols
• Ability to collaborate and be kind and respectful to coworkers and be part of a team environment
• Experience working in a household where the employers are not available for conversation and interaction
• Experience working under a supervisor who isn’t the family member
• Ability to pivot
• Calm energy and demeanor
• Willingness to be trained on the particular desires and quirks of the home
• Ability to respectfully greet guests - open door, offer drinks when needed
• Willingness to wear staff uniform (white polo shirt, khaki pants for cleaning, and white collared shirt and black pants for entertaining. Indoor-only shoes required; all uniform items to be paid for by employer.)
• Ability to notice any issues with the property in the course of work (burnt out lightbulbs, plumbing leaks, scratched surfaces, etc.) and report expediently to the family’s property manager

Qualifications

 

• Laundry and ironing experience; ability and willingness to iron
• Ability to sew buttons, mend clothes, etc.
• Flexibility to change hours when head housekeeper is out
• Ability to communicate with building staff along with shipping and receiving
• Ability to run errands when necessary
• Knowledge of Manhattan/getting around

Requirements

 

• Experience working in high-end private residences with fine art and fine furniture
• Kind, elegant, honest, dependable, loyal, high integrity and respectful manner
• Works well as part of a small household team
• Preferably skilled in garment care
• Preferable working knowledge of New York City
• Excellent, verifiable references from actual employer via telephone and in writing
• Legal documentation to be paid on the books
• Flexible with schedule, including Saturdays and evenings when the family is in town.
